A la dulcísima muerte – To sweet, sweet death

Poetry

A poem by Dharmesh (Spanish and English translation)

Como el matrimonio
de la tierra y el cielo
en esos halcones
de tus ojos, qué
velocidad la suya para
ahondar el reverbero
de tu luz como si
surgieras desde antes
extraña y familiar
desde el fondo del tiempo;
y la fragilidad
que ocultas y muestras
aun a tu pesar haciendo
balbucir estos versos
condenados a no
ser más que vaga sombra
de tu abismal belleza.

To sweet, sweet death

Like the marriage
of heaven and earth
in those hawks
of your eyes
how quickly the dazzle
of your light deepens
as if you’d arisen before
strange and familiar
from the depths of time
and the fragility
you show and hide
even in spite of yourself
making these verses stutter
condemned to be no more
than an indistinct shadow
of your bottomless beauty.
