This month’s solar transits discussed by Marga.
In Human Design, as in astrology, the Sun moves from sign to sign over the course of the year, but the 360 degrees of the Zodiac are not just divided into the 12 signs, but into 64 further sections, called Gates, which are inspired by the 64 hexagrams of the Chinese I-Ching, also known as the Book of Changes. In this column we present, month by month, the Gates that are activated by the passage of the Sun, and any Channel that might come into being in combination with the movement of other planets. Together they influence everything that happens to us, as we are individuals immersed in the collective cosmic energy…
Zodiac signs: from Virgo to Libra
29 August – 3 September – Gate 40 ~ Deliverance
There is a saying in Italian: “Every promise is a debt.” The ‘Deliverance’ we are talking about here is that feeling you get when you have paid off that debt, to others, to yourself, or maybe it’s a goal you had to struggle to achieve, finally taking off the load and enjoying the momentary lightness of ‘mission accomplished’. Hence these are good days to review your debit and credit sheet, to make new agreements and seek or consolidate alliances (including marriages), as long as you can tell and trust the people involved by a handshake… Otherwise, it is not worth it and you might as well end up in limiting and conflicted bonds. Do not sign any papers. The value of the word given (and taken), and the willpower to keep it, are the keynotes here: it’s important to be able to see them in ourselves and others before committing and making promises.
Important: this position of the Sun is always mirrored by the position of the Earth in Gate 37 and together they form the Channel of Community (37-40). It’s probably going to be a ‘keep it in the family’ kind of feeling, in all good and bad meanings and nuances that this can take…
4 – 9 September – Gate 64 ~ Diverse Possibilities
This is the Gate that holds the mystery of ‘before’, that moment when everything is being prepared, but nothing is ready yet, and we are left with just a tremendous, lively… confusion. A transition of some kind is taking place and only patience will bring us clarity about what we are waiting for or what life has in store for us. Although 64 is a Gate of the Crown and connects to the Mind through Gate 47, Realization, it is also connected to feelings, as part of the abstract-sensing Circuit. Therefore, nothing that happens here is strictly mental or logical, but is rather the utmost expression of the search for the ‘meaning of life’, more to be grasped and digested than to be understood intellectually… So, these could be days of great poignancy and intensity, to be enjoyed as much as possible for what they are, without trying to force any resolution: everything is still possible! If you really don’t know how to cope with the trepidation, go into nature and smell the leaves and flowers, or write a poem, tuning in to the somewhat dusky quality of late summer…
10 – 14 September – Gate 47 ~ Realization
After treading on the hazy uncertainty field, filled with sensuous anticipation, of the previous Gate (64), it is often in the realm of Gate 47, that meaning and significance unfold and take shape. Be wary, however, of the oppressive heaviness that sometimes comes with this Gate… In the I Ching it is called ‘exhaustion’: when the mind in search of meaning must hit the bottom before it can eventually grasp it… The risk is to linger at the bottom with no energy left to take off.
As with all the Gates of the Mind, in these days it is important to remain a witness, not to get identified with every step of the process, but to stay in casual anticipation and, like Archimedes, utter “Eureka!” at the moment of realization. And the most important realization is always that this too shall pass, that everything has a lesson to teach, and that everything finally makes sense in the great cauldron – the akash of the Hindus – of human experience. But only if you have the wisdom to drop the pursuit of happiness in favor of discovering reality.
15 – 20 September – Gate 6 ~ Conflict Resolution
When the Sun reaches this Gate, we see a definite shift in energy and values: in these days you may witness or be involved in crises, conflicts, diatribes, having to make a decision (probably an emotional one) between fueling the conflict, taking sides or fighting to be right, or adopting a more diplomatic ‘tactic’. And remember that ‘tactics’ comes from ‘tact’, which is the ability to deal with difficult situations without hurting, provoking, opposing, resisting, but finding instead the right words, actions and gestures that will smooth the rough edges. I like to call it the ‘diplomacy of the heart’ which, without giving up on truth, manages to find a way to bring harmony among people. Of all the Gates it is the most penetrating, thanks to its intense emotional and virtually… explosive charge. So, be steady and centered, because the outcome of peace or war will depend on it.
21 – 26 September – Gate 46 ~ Serendipity
If there is one Gate that can represent Luck or Good Fortune, it is Gate 46. ‘Serendipity’ is a word coined by the writer Horace Walpole in 1754, inspired by a Persian tale (The Three Princes of Serendip) whose characters kept making unexpected and fortunate discoveries while looking for something else… In these days keep your eyes open so that you won’t miss the gifts that are visible only to those who can let go of expectations and recognize the treasures of the unexpected. Unlike Gate 47, 46 is a Gate that always looks upward and has the energy to rise toward success and achievement. However, make sure you keep your pace and action steady. And don’t let success and good fortune go to your head, causing you to ignore or neglect your responsibilities and especially your own values. As in difficult times, ‘this too shall pass’ applies here, too.
27 – 30 September – Gate 18 ~ Improving
The whole purpose of Gate 18 is to revise, correct, improve, perfect… And while it can be considered a great talent, its dark side is that in order to do this we must in a sense be tuned in to what does not work. This can sometimes be very painful and exhausting and push the individual far beyond the threshold of improvement, while seeking a perfection that can never be achieved because it does not exist. So, don’t be surprised if during these days you will experience or witness a tendency (or more intensely) to fix things that never worked and have long been a thorn in your side. On the other hand, it may be the right time to actually fix them, albeit with a sense of ‘there will always be something wrong anyway’. It may be a good opportunity to identify this force within you: if you know it, you can turn it in your favor. If you ignore it, it may push you to have a bad experience with people, things, or situations that are not so terrible after all… but only human, and inevitably, flawed.
Note: The Sun will exit Gate 18 on 2 October 2022.
