Samudro examines Osho’s 92nd Birthday and the recent events in Osho World in the light of Numerology and Astrology. He adds, “It’s time for a renewal of Osho’s world.”
One of the five directions of my work is what I call the ‘Intuitive Sciences,’ which includes modalities such as astrology, colour therapy, numerology, the Qabalah and tarot. These mystical methods are both ancient and modern. They can help us understand the timing of events that occur both globally and personally, in both the material and spiritual realms.
This article is focused on the spiritual master Osho Rajneesh whose 92nd birthday occurred on 11th December 2023. Even though he left this world in 1990, the organisation, places and work that were created by and for him continue to be influenced by his natal energies.
Numerology
There are several important numbers in numerology. The main number is called the Life Path and it describes the basic character of an individual. It is the single digit sum of all the numbers in one’s birthdate. Osho’s Life Path number is 1; his birthdate 11 December 1931 can be added thus:
1+1+1+2+1+9+3+1 = 19 = 10 = 1
Osho is a prime example of number one character: completely individualistic, just as he once said of himself, “I am a majority of one.”
Another important number is the sum of the birth day and birth month. It is called the Conditioning Number as it describes how we are conditioned in the earlier stages of our life, how we perceive the world, and how we express our personality. Osho’s conditioning number is
1+1+1+2 = 5
…which is the number of someone who will also be the centre of attention, like a star.
These two numbers remain with us for our whole life, but each year we do get a new number, the Personal Year Number, which is how we will perceive the world according to our personality. We calculate this from our birthday this year. Osho’s is
1+1+1+2+2+0+2+3 = 12 = 3
Thus, after his birthday, we can expect that everything connected to Osho will have a number three energy.
The number three energy is mostly about communication and creativity. The number three year provides an opportunity to communicate one’s truth, fully from one’s heart without prejudice, bias or the distortion of the ego’s desires, attachments or fears.
The awakened number three is also about creativity, not only in terms of producing something new but also of finding new forms of behaviour and understanding. An example for Osho’s world could be the publication of new translations of some old Hindi language books into English; translations of his books into other international languages; new media attention on Osho’s life and works… For all who are involved in the media world and publications this can be a very active year – but the emphasis will be on adding something new and unique in the effort to spread Osho’s teachings.
The unconscious expressions of number three that we should remain vigilant of are: betrayal, jealousy, gossip, slander, bitchiness, dragging others down, bitterness… Not a pleasant atmosphere, but one we might remember occurred in the past within Osho’s Communes. So it can be hoped that we have learned our lessons and can focus on the more conscious manifestations of the number three.
However, as Osho’s birthday falls close to the end of the year, we need to consider that he is always in a transition from one number to the next. He will only have a purely number three energy until 1st January 2024, when the collective energy of the new year will add a bit of number four.
Another step in the transit from 3 to 4 will occur in June 2024, but then he will be fully in number 4, influenced by his following birthday. The number four energy is clearly very different – it is the number of decisions, identity, the self, power, will, ego-centredness, structure. He, and we who are connected to him, will be moving down the chakras from the Anāhata (heart) to the Manipura (solar plexus).
If we look back to 2022, when Osho had a number two personal year, we can see how the two manifested as a division of two polar opposites. Such as two sides involved in the court case of the proposed sale of Basho plot of the Koregaon Park premises in Pune, which have been the historical prime location for Osho’s community (Ashram/Commune/Resort). One polar group being the management known as OSHO International Foundation (OIF) who wished to sell the property but were opposed by a group of 26 sannyasins named the ‘rebel group’.
It is timely that the court in Mumbai decided that matter at the very end of Osho’s number 2 year. And the ‘rebels’ may rejoice in their victory heartfully and in celebration. A fitting image is the Osho Zen Tarot card, the 3 of Water (Cups) named ‘Celebration’.
The recent court case defeat for OIF and their subsequent withdrawal of the property sale, could be a turning point that removes constraints on those who have the number 3 energy and who wish to publish Osho’s words, teachings and images without fear of being blocked or banned. But the issue of trademark, copyright and royalties may return later. When the number 4 personal year energy increases at Osho’s birthday in 2024, we can expect the battle of wills to resume – that is, if those in positions of power in OIF decide not to retire this year.
To summarise the numerology of Osho’s personal year number three: 2024 can be a year of new communications and new creativity. Osho’s devotees can launch a positive new energy of spreading his teaching in all the new formats and communication methods.
Astrology
What is happening now in Osho’s astrology is really quite unusual. But first a brief explainer: each planet of our natal chart represents one aspect of our character, a sub-personality; our Natal Venus represents our Inner Woman, etc. These natal planets will remain with us our whole life, but they can be developed into more conscious and positive expressions through meditation and self-development practices.
The centre of our being is figurately located in the empty centre of the horoscope and is surrounded by the 14+ natal planets and chart points. These are activated by the transiting planets (those in the sky at this moment). For example, as the planet Jupiter has an orbit of 12 years, it will activate one house of the natal chart per year. Saturn comes back to the same point every 29.5 years, which triggers the notorious “Saturn Return” just before our 30th birthday – e.g., at that age Siddhartha Gautama left his palace to meditate in the forest, and Jesus went into the desert for 40 days. Astrology is one massive clock, with a clock-hand for each planet that sets off an alarm. Every few years, a very prominent astrological alarm tries to wakes us up.
When two recent important events in Osho’s world occurred within about one month, I felt compelled to look at what is going on in Osho’s chart – which transits are occurring.
The passing of OIFs Inner Circle Chairman, Anand Jayesh (Michael O’Bryne) on 6th November 2023, and the Charity Commission’s court ruling against OIF’s sale of the Basho property on 7th December 2023, both occurred just before Osho’s 92nd Solar Return (birthday).
What we can see when we place the transiting planets on an outer wheel and Osho’s birth chart on an inner wheel, is that the symbols for the planets Uranus and Chiron are in the same place (in conjunction). For those not familiar with astrological symbols, Chiron’s glyph looks like a key (⚷ ), and Uranus looks like a letter H with an extra vertical line in the middle (♅ ). This is like two alarm bells ringing at the same time with the same tune.
In Osho’s natal chart, his Natal Uranus is in his 11th house and is being transited by Chiron from June 2022 to January 2024. While Chiron is in his 12th house and is being transited by Uranus from May 2023 to March 2024.
Uranus – the rebel and awakener
Uranus is the planet of unexpected events – it is one of the grand awakening planets. Unfortunately, many traditional astrologers advise people to just wait for Uranian events to pass for a year or two and not make any drastic decisions. In the Astrology of Awakening, we advise people to learn from the positive intention of the planets and how they want us to wake up and get in tune with our life’s ultimate mission. Uranus wants us to change our old habits and find new, more creative actions that will support the discovery of our unique individuality.
Osho would have experienced this same transit – Uranus in conjunction to his Natal Chiron – when he was around 7 to 8 years old. That would have coincided with his first encounter with death at the sudden passing of his maternal Grandfather, as he recounts in his book Glimpses of a Golden Childhood. Astrologically, we also have to note that Saturn was transiting his Natal Uranus around that time also. Thus, we can see that Uranus did bring sudden and life-changing events to Osho as it does for all of us, and continues to do so for all in Osho’s world.
Uranus also indicates rebellion. And we all know how much of a rebel Osho himself was throughout his life. His Natal Uranus is located in his 11th house, giving it an Aquarian energy boost, which explains why he loved the concept of communal living so much. So again, we can see that Uranus is prominent in Osho’s chart. Thus, we can expect that any transit by Uranus, or to his Natal Uranus, will be very noticeable – as with these two recent events, which I expect are going to have a long-lasting effect.
What is repressed within, will be manifested outside and return to challenge us
An interesting psychological aspect of astrology is that when we do not accept the energy of one of our natal planets, and thus reject one of our sub-personalities, the energy of that planet will be represented by an outer force. Someone, or some event, will manifest itself so that we do have to confront that unaccepted part of our own self. This is happening now with Osho’s Natal Uranus.
At least in my view, the management of Osho’s organisation have been acting in a very conservative manner for at least the past 20 years. They have been manifesting Osho’s own Saturnian energies, which can be quite disciplined or even draconian. Osho was clearly a master who was unafraid of wielding his stick when needed. (Astrologers should note that Osho has five planets in Capricorn, a stellium of which Saturn is the tail.)
However, Osho’s prominent Uranus made him an outspoken freedom-advocating rebel against traditions. This is quite a contrast amongst his sub-personalities that he integrated within himself as a master of contradictions. Yet, his management have repeatedly ostracised any free speakers. The disciplinarians in the office and at the gate have barred many of Osho’s lovers from entry for only slight infringements, which would not have been given much attention when Osho was present. It is as if his very presence were able to contain all the contradictions, not only within himself but within his vastly different-charactered community of devotees, disciples and visitors. So, when freedom is restricted, Osho’s rebellious energy has to find a way to manifest through the band of devotees who dared to take OIF to court.
Although one court case has been won by the ‘rebels’, other cases are pending. And the OIF authorities are pursuing a case against 72 devotees who dared to enter the Resort on 22nd March 2023 wearing their malas without permission.
It has been reported that, on that day inside the Resort premises, the local police, whom the Resort security had requested to assist them, physically beat one sannyasin from the USA with a bamboo cane so badly that he had to be hospitalised. This is a Chiron event, a wound that needs to be healed, otherwise it will fester within the body of the community. The astrology of that day occurred a few days before Chiron’s 3rd of 5th transits of Osho’s Natal Uranus. And the window for healing the wounds of that event will soon close, as Chiron’s final transit will occur on 8th January 2024.
Chiron – the wounded healer
So, what about Osho’s Natal Chiron? Chiron is known as the ‘wounded healer’ as it signifies where we have a wound in our body-mind that can be healed and can become our potential for healing others with a similar wound. As Osho’s Chiron is in Taurus, we can say that it relates to Osho’s own physical health issues. Notoriously, Osho disliked physical exercise and only walked a few steps a day for the last several years of his physical life. Although he did have a strong physique, starting from his early, self-proclaimed “Rajas guna” period up to his 40s, and his Uranus Opposition which coincided with the foundation of his first ashram in Pune. Its placement in the 12th house is also not conducive to strong health per se.
Yet with the timing of the recent events, I see that the 12th-house Chiron includes the wounds caused by Osho’s decision that the Inner Circle be secretive in its decision making. The rulings of the Inner Circle were communicated as fait accompli, with no debate possible. The Inner Circle could always cite that that was the way Osho had set it up and thus it had a spiritual basis (also a 12th-house theme). Yet, combined with Jayesh’s introverted hermit-like, secretive character, and his frequent absence from the Resort, plus the deliberate shrinking of the Inner Circle, it seems to have become an autocracy rather than the meritocracy that Osho publicly advocated. For anyone who reads all of Osho’s books on his vision of communal life and then experiences how the Resort is run in reality, the dichotomy is so stark that one is left confused or wounded… or chooses to remain blissfully oblivious to the antics of the management.
Love Guru or Zen Master
I see yet another of contradiction within Osho’s natal chart and thus now in his community. It’s represented by his Natal Sun in his 7th house, plus a stellium of planets in the 7th and 8th houses, which are just astrologically perfect for him to be called the “Love Guru” and thus inspire great devotion in many of his disciples. Yet this is in juxtaposition to the more Zen-like aspect of his character that can be assigned to his Natal Uranus in the 11th house (Aquarian house).
Back in the Pune I period, when Osho gave discourse series on differing spiritual paths each month, he could be the perfect Tantra master in May and then the great Zen master in June. This was rarely seen as a contradiction for us present at the time. He was famous for being a spiritual master who did not shy away from the controversial topic of sex, love and relationships for those who also felt drawn to his eclectic teaching of many religions. Sex and spirituality are polar opposites that Osho fused together very well in his teachings and summarised in his term “Zorba the Buddha.” However, once Osho had left this earthly shore, the age-old dichotomy appeared once again amongst his disciples.
After Osho had left us, and when Jayesh and Amrito tried to enforce their vision of Osho’s vision as being only Zen-style, there was an uproar amongst those disciples who felt devotion as their path. Notably Indian national sannyasins were mocked or ostracised for ‘worshipping’ by bowing down; the Commune musicians were banned for singing Osho’s name; group leaders were not spared either, and many a time found themselves replaced by an office worker. (Personal note: I was also banned for one year from being a group leader by Osho’s secretary Anando for questioning her decisions.) Osho’s photos were removed and malas prohibited.
In Osho’s natal chart, his love planets of Moon and Venus are in a challenging aspect of 90° square to his Zen planet Uranus. He was a Love guru and a Zen guru – both. Allow me to reiterate the point that, when Osho was alive he could integrate his contradictions within himself, but now his world (places and people) does not have a cohesive bond, especially since Pluto transited his Natal Sun at the time when the Osho Auditorium was opened and the old Buddha Hall was taken down.
Pluto transforms – that’s just his job!
When Pluto transited Osho’s Natal Sun in 2002, I said to friends that that was the natural time for Osho to die. But as he had already died, 12 years earlier, how could he die again? Remove his photos, ban devotion, yet construct a new hall and destroy the old hall – even though they are actually the same size and cannot contain 10,000 Buddhas as Osho wished… But at least we no longer have to count the mosquitos as potential Buddhas!
Pluto was just doing what he is supposed to do: transform everything he touches. That’s often experienced destructively before he rebuilds or resurrects. Pluto can burn us to ashes, until we are reborn as a phoenix. And Pluto did his job with Osho’s chart: from 2001, when Pluto was opposite Osho’s Ascendent, through to his birthday in 2019, when he was in Opposition to Osho’s Natal Pluto, although those 18 years of Pluto transits were fraught with conflicts and tensions as the Commune was replaced by the Resort.
You can guess by now that, personally, I was not a supporter of the Resort model and preferred the previous Commune style. In 2009, on the Saturn Return of my sannyas initiation, I made my personal decision to no longer return to what had been my spiritual and residential home for 29 years. Transformation had happened, and I knew in my heart that things must change, because Osho was a Master who had reinvented himself so many times in his few years with us. Just how could his place remain the same, and yet, how was it to change?
I am sure that Jayesh made all the decisions that he sincerely felt were transmitted to him by Osho. And now with his passing, it seems a new chapter is about to be written. Here I am using astrology to indicate what are the last paragraphs of the Resort phase of Osho’s work. And I will also add some possibilities regarding the coming chapters.
Saturn in Osho’s 10th house “…What have you done with my dream?”
Luckily, we do know Osho’s exact time of birth to be 17:13 in the village of Kuchwada, MP, India on 11 December 1931. This was verified and confirmed to me by one of Osho’s brothers who was the family chronicler. Thus, we can check exactly when Osho’s chart will have transits. On 10th March 2023, just twelve days before the violence committed by local police inside the Resort, Saturn entered Osho’s 10th house.
Saturn is the grand restrictor, he cuts down what has overgrown; he is a gardener cutting back dead wood in the winter. So, it is no wonder that OIF has lost its court case. The 10th house is the area concerned with our career. Certainly, for the organisation that has taken over the management of Osho’s legacy, this will be a period of restriction that will last almost 3 years. At least until they understand that what Saturn actually wants is a new foundation and for new seeds to be planted for future growth. Saturn has a bad reputation, but his potential for our awakening is to ground us into reality. He forces us to see what truly is. Nice words are usually irrelevant for Saturn as actions speak louder than words.
However, Saturn is in the potentially confusing sign of Pisces and he will also be in opposition to Osho’s Natal Neptune in February 2024. This could bring about a mood of disillusionment for those who cling to a certain vision or dream. Osho’s “I Leave You My Dream” will undergo a reality check. “… And what have you done with my dream?” Osho might very well ask us. Those who are ready to let go of the past may be able to see what is the lesson of this present moment.
Fast forward to the further future
Osho’s 74th Enlightenment Day on 21st March 2027 will be highlighted exactly by the Transiting Saturn in conjunction his Osho’s Natal Uranus. If my above interpretations are correct, then that could be the end of the cycle of the ‘Osho Zen’ vision. But what will replace that? Will there be a new vision of Osho’s vision? We will find out in late 2028, when Uranus will transit across Osho’s Ascendant.
Given that by that year the global collective will be well into its Aquarian Epoch, we may expect a great leap of Osho’s message to humanity to be spread by whichever digital/cyber/artificial intelligence technologies are current at the time. This is a strong hint from astrology to whoever are the managers of Osho’s teachings in the coming 5 years: “Get Osho ready for the AI revolution.” If we do not want Osho’s teachings to fade into obscurity, we have a few vital years in which to get ready. When Uranus enters Osho’s 1st house, it will be a prime opportunity to spread his message as never before. A once in an 84-year chance! Yet I still foresee a significant obstacle remaining – the copyright issue.
And it is all about the money, honey!
Copyright is a money issue, of course. Who or what should receive the royalties from the sales of Osho’s teachings? OIF lays claim as the sole legal beneficiary holder of the copyright of Osho’s written and spoken words. However, they have not been able to completely prevent the multitude of Osho’s devotees who feel compelled to spread their beloved master’s teachings on social media and in messenger apps. I suggest to OIF to just give up the struggle to control every posting. Rather embrace the enthusiasm and support the sharing. Just remind everyone to add a reference to the book from where it is quoted, so that we can limit the fake Osho quotes flying around cyberspace.
From 2028 through to 2037, the ever-disruptive, yet creative Uranus will be opposite to Osho’s stellium (the cluster of planets formed by the Sun and his inner planets, including Saturn). So, we can expect change, change and more change. And again, I emphasise that this is the prime time for technology to spread Osho and not get lost into more in-fighting.
In-fighting is there, because Osho’s Natal Pluto is firmly and permanently in his 2nd house, which signifies that there will likely always be issues of control and power over the finances that are coming from his work. Unless we discover the potential for awakening in the fact that it’s Osho’s Natal Pluto opposing his Saturn that made him such a crazy Master. His disciples must learn to embrace their contradictions and learn to work together – otherwise what difference has Osho’s teaching really made for us, if we just keep fighting between our polarity identities?
Uranus behaves also like an eternal teenager, a bit crazy, but with creative ideas. As time ticks inexorably by and the first generation of Osho’s sannyasins are departing this world, the 2030s can be a “changing of the guard,” where new Osho sannyasins, who have never seen Osho in the body, will be leading the way and sharing Osho’s message with the world. Though I plan to stick around as long as possible and continue doing what I do – sharing Osho in my way, as he has inspired so much. Even if he did say that 99.9% of astrology is nonsense, he also said that 0.1% is “pure truth.”
I hope I have been able to share some of the truths of astrology, and how it can be used to awaken us, in the same way as can all the other modalities I present – the Chakra system; Childhood Psychotherapies; Conscious Love, Sex & Tantra; Intuitive Sciences and, of course, Meditation. Perhaps I am a bit of an oddity in Osho’s World, in that I cannot limit myself to one direction. I am more of a polymath – a master of many methods. This time I was wearing my astrologer’s hat…
Summary of possibilities to come for Osho’s world
2023: Uranus, Chiron and Saturn transits
Osho’s 92nd birthday is the beginning of the end of the current management over Osho’s affairs. But it is also a chance for healing of divisions within the Osho community.
2024 – 2027: Saturn in 10th house, Uranus in 12th house
Limbo state between the old management fading away and a new vision emerging. Time to prepare for the AI revolution.
2028: Uranus transits Ascendant and 1st house
Osho’s teachings will be spread globally through new technologies. New generations of Osho’s followers.
It is not just Osho’s World changing – the whole world is!
We are entering an era of a massive global period of change. 2024 is the end of 16 years of Pluto being in Capricorn – which heralded economic crises, and the rise of authoritarianism. 2025-2026 will see a unique astrological situation with all the most consequential outer planets entering new zodiac signs. Astrologers called it a ‘Mini Grand Trine’ or a ‘Basket of outer planets’ that, combined with Pluto’s entry into Aquarius, will be a veritable New Era – an Aquarian Epoch of 20 years. Additionally, the Human Design system calculates that 2027 is the transition from one 400-year period to another and this will bring about a new form of humanity called “The Rave.”
But to lay out the details of all that requires another long article… when the inspiration comes… Until then I will say:
“Namaste, and let’s embrace the changes.”
