“Nothing is said, nothing is heard and the heart starts dancing with the master”

These are Osho’s own words, put to music more than forty years ago by a young Danish sannyasins, Pratibha. I must have sung this song a hundred times over the years, to old sannysins who were around when it was created and to young people who have barely heard of Osho. There’s always the same response – silence, goosebumps and a full-throated response to the chorus of ‘la-illah, la-illah’. There is simply some magic enfolded in those chords, melody and lyrics that transcends time.

Until now the only way to listen to this song has been two low-quality live recordings on sannyas.wiki. Just released, Thank You for Everything (the first album of a five-album series, called Songs of Gratefulness – inspired by Osho, due to appear over the coming months) corrects that for this song and dozens of others composed in Osho’s presence.

The series has its roots in 2008, when Gopal approached me at the Osho Resort in Pune with the idea to record for posterity the many songs that had been sung around Osho over the decades, but which had never been properly recorded. We agreed that he would take care of the research, compiling the catalog, contacting the composers, checking the lyrics, while I would look after the music and the recording.

We went into a local studio with Narayani as lead singer (composer of the well-known Home is Where the Heart Is) and used my guitar playing as the basis for each song. Over many sessions we added other vocalists and instrumentalists. You can see and hear them on this video, performing one of my favourites, With a Fire in Our Hearts (to be released on Album 2).

I’ve just finished listening to Thank You for Everything and heard some of the songs we recorded all that time ago again for the first time. What a sweet vibe we transmit! We too fell under the spell of the simplicity and sincerity of devotion to the master that was built into their composition.
