Ma Prem Bela (Bela Thieme) was the daughter of Kabira, originally from Chile. She grew up in the commune. She died aged 47 in her home in Anchorage, Alaska.

Rupda, one of her dearest friends, says:

Bela was a lover of Osho, a seeker of truth, and was on a spiritual path when already very young. She loved community and had a big, joyous heart. She will be missed by many around the
globe. She grew up in the commune with many of the ‘kids’ of our generation and is well-known by many of us.

We will miss her immensely

I hope that she is flying high in her new chapter of existence in this universe.

Bela with Rupda

Kabira, Belas’mother, writes to Viha Connection Magazine):

My beloved Bela left her body last Tuesday. She died in her bed, alone in her condo. We don’t know exactly what happened. She had had seizures before.

Many friends are asking, “How was Bela before she left her body?” She was the happiest I have ever seen her. She had been selected as one of the talents, here in Alaska and was going to be trained here, and then taken for an audition in Miami. That was huge for her. She started singing every night with all her passion, which you could hear in her voice. She sang over 300 songs in the last months. She was in such a beautiful space! I heard Osho say that death is the peak, the crescendo of life. Certainly it was the peak in her life.

She had dislocated her arm some weeks ago. She said she fell from her bed, but I think she fainted or something as nobody falls from her bed, but she didn’t remember. After her accident in Cologne she often fainted.

I feel peace, acceptance, bliss, benediction as I know she is in the Light. As a mother, at the end you feel happy when your child is happy.

Of course, there are many moments of memories, of tears, but I hear Osho saying to me: Kabira, don’t miss this opportunity! The love of the sannyas community, my friends around the world calling – so touching! And “life goes on and on, this sweet, sweet song.”

We had a beautiful send-off via Zoom for her on December 5. Thank you everybody for all the love received, for the beautiful gift that Bela left us all, for Milarepa who traveled seven hours just so he could sing for Bela.

Kabira and Bela

Milarepa writes:

Bela lived life very much on her own terms. She was unable to compromise what she felt in her heart to be true. She was creative, talented, and had a delightful sense of humor. Our recent phone calls were full of laughter, reminiscing about Osho, life, relationships, Commune times, and more. She enjoyed sharing her passion for singing and music with me up until very recently. I would tease her sometimes about having so many Phil Collins songs in her repertoire. The last recording project she sent me was the Dionne Warwick song, “That’s What Friends Are For”. Hearing her belt out the lyrics in perfect tune, singing straight from her heart, I had to smile and nod. Yes, Bela’s friends were very important to her and I will be forever grateful she counted me as one of them.

Daniel, Bela’s uncle, but really they were like brother and sister; they grew up together from her earliest year until she left Chile.

There are several memories that come to my head almost every minute. It’s a loss impossible to recover from. I will just have to learn to live in this world without Bela, without the possibility to see her, to touch her, because she will always be in the spirit and soul with us. Now I have two Guardian Angels, my beloved brother Cristian and my little sister Bela.

Thank you for the so many beautiful moments together, thank you for all the love given, thanks for being you.

Fly high, Bela, heaven is waiting for you. Angels are awaiting your arrival.

Lots of love.

Daniel

Lyrics of the last song Bela sent to her mother, Kabira on Monday night:
“She left the body on Tuesday… she sang it for me…”

And I never thought I’d feel this way
And as far as I’m concerned
I’m glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe, I love you
And if I should ever go away
Well, then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That’s what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I’ll be on your side forever more
That’s what friends are for
Well, you came in loving me
And now there’s so much more I see
And so by the way
I thank you
Oh and then for the times when we’re apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
The words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling and keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That’s what friends are for
In good times and bad times
I’ll be on your side forever more
That’s what friends are for
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That’s what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I’ll be on your side forever more
That’s what friends are for
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
Cause I tell you, that’s what friends are for
Whoa, good times and the bad times
I’ll be on your side forever more
That’s what friends are for

More Tributes

Beautiful Bela, you were one of a kind. A rare flower that touched me deeply in the most unforeseen ways. You had a zest for life that brought you to the highest of peaks, and the lowest of valleys. We spoke on the phone just a few weeks before, and there was such a purity of unconditional love coming my way. You were in good spirits. Harmonious and happy. Life was going well for you, and I was very glad to hear that you had been invited to start singing again more professionally. You were a singer by heart, and many will remember your voice from back in the days when performing in different communes. I will always hold you dear in my heart, and I miss you.

Lots of love and lightness, dear Bela, on your New path!

We, Alaskan sannyasins, saw Bela flower since her adolescence, till the day she left her body. She was Kabira’s daughter first, of course, but all of us’ daughter as well. She was like a daughter to me 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 I was so lucky to experience her energy in her last days: innocence, pure love, creativity and so much light! She loved singing and found her true voice thru the heart. So beautiful! Bela, you were and continue to be a shining star in the Universe. Your heart was soooo big ♥️ I will look for you at night in the stars ❤️

Querida Blanquita
Te mando muchos cariños y fuerza y luz.

Kabira and Bela

Liebe Bela,
Du bist in meinem Herzen, auch, wenn Du es besser wusstest als ich. Ich liebe Dich, so wie Du bist und Du bleibts für immer meine Liebe.
Dein
Michael

I knew Bela as a young teenager in Alaska… her presence leaves a memory in anyone’s heart, whoever she meets on this earthly plane; she touches, because her sweet soul shines through those tender eyes.
Yes, a young teenager full of the adventure of her life… and whenever I see her in my heart… I see a sweet white graceful young swan, dancing around in the enchanting waters of life. Gliding around and touching people’s hearts as she moved around gracefully in the flowing waters of life. AND that young swan’s soul could be felt soaring into the heavens of divinity too.
Yes Bela, you were in this world, and yet belonging to a place of divinity.
Now Bela, I see you with so many swans flying and soaring together.

My beloved Bela,
My first contact with you was in your mother’s womb, during your childhood we shared precious moments and since then your sweetness, lovingness and artistic talents enchanted my heart. Then you lived in Poona near our beloved Master were you grew up in spirituality.
Now that you are gone, your presence is still vibrating in my soul.
I know that now you fly high into heavenly realms with unlimited freedom.
I send you all the light and love of my heart. 💜💚🦋🦋🌈🌈🌈

Bela playing musicBeloved Bela,
We met in Cologne in the 90s and became close friends right away. And I wasn´t the only one, Bela was loved and embraced by many of us in and out of the buddhafield. She was a challenge to some, with her wild true nature, not holding back much of her loving humorous intelligent way of meeting. Once she loved someone you could count on her in every way and she would never forget about anything. She was overwhelming. Bela and me sang a lot together, danced, laughed, shared a lot. Just recently when I had a nervous breakdown she supported me in such a sensitive beautiful way, she advised me to look again for peace and harmony with my beloved ones, taking space, walks, and caring for myself. Oh Bela, I love you.
