Sarita shares a 5-senses-self-hypnosis technique to rewrite those cringe memories
We’ve all had them – those moments that make us cringe every time we think back.
While they often become stories we laugh about, some of them can leave lasting imprints on our psyche and may limit our present experiences.
Looking back on your life, what is the most cringeworthy moment you can remember?
Good news! The 5-senses-self-hypnosis technique can help you to rewrite the inner script of such memories.
I remember one such experience from my childhood…
My cringeworthy childhood memory
I was 6 years old, in the classroom and was badly in need of a pee. The rule was, we kids couldn’t leave the class without permission from the teacher. The teacher was a tall formable lady. She was in the middle of her lecture. I shyly raised my hand but got no response. So I left my seat, approached her and tugged on her skirt to get her attention.
She continued her lecture, unabated, completely ignoring me. My situation was dire. I was putting all of my efforts into holding my bladder till I could get her attention! Since she completely ignored me, finally, my bladder simply released its contents and I peed all over the floor in front of the whole class. The teacher finally noticed me and shouted, “why didn’t you tell me you had to go to the bathroom?” I was then sent home, acutely embarrassed and covered in pee.
The result of this situation was that I lost trust in authorities of all kinds. She exhibited such insensitivity and stupidity that I concluded that all persons in an authoritarian position must be of a similar type!
I was sharing this memory with my friends and they shared some of their moments. Here are 3 such stories:
- “I met someone a few years after we had a brief fling. I fondly greeted him but he didn’t remember me at all! Both he and I were acutely embarrassed when I reminded him about the circumstances of our last meeting.”
- “Well, this one still makes me cringe thinking about it! It was New Years Eve and a party was in full swing. I was attending the party with my Beloved. Ceremonial cacao, (which is an aphrodisiac) was on offer and I drank way too much of it which of course boosted my libido considerably. I was on the dance floor and just as it turned midnight I shared a long passionate kiss with a random woman, right in front of my Beloved! Of course she stormed out of the party, was hugely insulted and it took a long time to build the trust between us again.”
- “There was a huge party for my 35th birthday. A friend there made fun of me for not having a boyfriend. As a gag, he gave me a gift of a lingam made of some water absorbing rubber. When placed in water, it grows, taking about 24 hours to do so. I put it in water in the sink and then went to my girlfriend’s house to spend the night. The next day I had a plumber coming to my house to fix a leaky pipe under the sink. When he reached the sink, he stopped dead in his tracks in shock! I had totally forgotten about the lingam in the water and came to find out why the plumber was frozen in place with a face aghast as he viewed my sink. What I found was the rubber lingam, which had grown to an enormous size and looked eerily like a dismembered penis. I hastily picked it up, terribly embarrassed and exclaimed; “Oh, it was so small and now it is so large!!” The Plumber muttered some excuse and rushed out of the house!”
Of course it is healthy to learn to laugh about such incidents, but some of these memories may linger in your subconscious and hold you back from living to your fullest!
Here is an effective way to dissolve such lingering emotions and help you break free from them –
The 5-senses-self-hypnosis technique
Rewrite your cringe memories using these 5 steps:
- Using your creative imagination and intuition, go back into the memory and feel it with all five senses, making it come vividly alive.
- Now, imagine you are floating up to the soul level, seeing this scene from above. Find out, from the soul level, why did you choose this experience? What did your innermost soul wish for you to learn from it?
- Now, ask yourself, “for my highest good, should I rewrite the script of this memory or not?”
- If you receive “yes,” to rewrite the inner script, sense and imagine a new scenario arising which is more in tune with your true being. Physically act out the new scenario, utilising all five senses. See, feel, smell, taste and hear the new scenario playing out.
- Now, take the effects of this new scenario forward through your life, all the way to the present. Sense and imagine how your life changes and transforms as a result of having rewritten your inner script.
- Once you reach the present, Namaste backwards in time, thanking the rewritten memory. Then, Namaste to you as you are in the here and now, thanking yourself for showing up for self-healing.
