In this slideshow we follow two kestrels, one sitting on a dead tree, the other eating a mouse (I think it’s a female). She then shits onto the male, or at least that’s what it looks like from my angle. She then flies down to the grass with the mouse.
Later, on the other side of the burial mound, there was another kestrel (maybe the one who was eating the mouse?) on top of a bird nesting box. The male flies off the dead tree and jumps onto the female. No asking for permission or foreplay here… and then flies off, using her head as a take-off point.
A lot of excitement in just a few minutes. Each time I was there at the right time. When I’m in nature, I’m mostly in the right place and at the right time. The most important thing for me is to feel love for the animals, to be in the right energy. I believe they feel it and are not scared of me. I never need to hide in a bird watching cabin or wear camouflage clothes.
This video, which I also showed in my Birdtalk show, follows a couple of grebes mating. It was quite touching when, after a few weeks, I discovered the result of the mating: that shining little white egg in the nest. It was quite funny – but also terrifying – to watch the heron trying to steal their egg.
