How Samasati came into being
by Bhakta
When Jalalo created a women’s mantra-singing group at Osho’s sannyas community, Samasati, deep in the rainforests of eastern Australia, me being her neighbour, I heard the beautiful vibe coming from her circle. It did not take long for me to suggest we do a joint project where I’d write the music and beats and she and her friends sing the mantras.
We started in 2005 and after many of life’s twists and turns it was completed just a month ago.

A relaxing aliveness
by Gopal
Samasati is such a good title for a music album. It is a well-known word in India meaning “remember yourself.” It is also Osho’s last word spoken in public.
As I listen to the first track, ‘Namastasaye’ brings a sense of soothing and calm. Perhaps another way to express that would be: a relaxing aliveness. This track also seems to set the atmosphere from the very start. And Jalalo’s beautiful voice, combined with the backing harmony singers, gives that rich vocal mix I so much enjoyed in this album.
Bhakta’s instrumental sounds and arrangements complement the vocals so well, and give the music a pulse of life energy that feels just right. I especially appreciate his creativity with what he did on percussion – adding just the right amount of unique and varied sounds and beats – again that relaxing aliveness.
Most of the songs are based on traditional mantras. There is one song, though, called ‘In Your Love’, which was written by Jalalo. A song inspired by Osho. Here again I relished listening to the beautiful blend of Jalalo’s voice with the backing harmony singers – all singing from their hearts – with the addition of Bhakta’s instrumental arrangement.
These songs all take me inward, and make me come back to myself. And fill me with a feeling of gratitude for life, and for the present moments we are so generously given.
In Your Love
by Jalalo
In your love I can rest
In your wind I can bend
In your sun the moon can shine
In your sky I can fly
