Madhuri's Summer Haikus

Little hoovering
hedgehog – in the night grass – did
Upstairs toss out chips?

Robin with spider
in beak goes on packing sun-
flower seeds in too

Out early morning
to pick nasturtium leaves and
flowers – no bees yet!

Black velvet bumble-
bee on pink satin flower –
boudouir en l’air!

White cats, white flowers:
but I like stripes, corals,
tiger lilies, splots –

Summer Haikus

Laptop has bad ra-
diation. Suited up for
a session of work!

Buddleia tree: one
hundred bobbing wee-wees guard
my window so well!

Horse in a dress, horse
in a dress – who wouldn’t bless
a horse in a dress?

Summer Haikus

One long onion branch
looking peculiar. What
great orange lilies!

Blissful morning walk
down by canal. But! RRRROFFFFF! RRRRROFFF!
Dogs don’t care ‘bout that!

Trying to toss dental
floss. Caught on invisible
spider web! Air-hung

Coleus: resem-
bles flowers, and even has
flowers. What riches!

Too hot, too hot – oh
what have we humans done to
this Northern valley?

Hollyhock dresses
for fairies – every year they
have a fashion show.

Summer Haikus

The spraying man is
coming. Flee, butterflies, moths,
bees, flowers, dogs; flee!

Trees on far hill make
castle against distant soft grey
moorland tops, and sky

Geranium: what
a faithful, undemanding
and bounteous bloom!

Sprawling cat resists
all efforts to get him to
look at the camera!

Canal path: shade and
shadow are surely the most
wondrous creation!

Rain came. Grass grows. Now
an empire is afoot, creep-
ing ever onward –

Hiking sandals in
woods. Ouch! Sticks get in there and
tear rips in a toe!

Summer Haikus

Spider plant tries to
make babies quickly. But I
cut them – no room here!

My garden is so
planless, messy, thick, gorgeous –
waves of flowers bloom!

Fox family late
at night talking in back yard:
bark, skreek, yell, grumble!

Walk in woods. There is
no better way to dance this
hour – trees! Stream! Breeze!
