The Strange Footprint

A quote by Sir Arthur Eddington, from the book, ‘Space, Time and Gravitation’.

We have found a strange footprint
on the shores of the unknown.
We have devised profound theories,
one after another, to account for its origin.
At last, we have succeeded in reconstructing
the creature that made the footprint.
And lo! it is our own.

Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882 – 1944) was an English astronomer, physicist, and mathematician who did his greatest work in astrophysics; he was also a philosopher and populariser of science. He wrote 15 scientific books on the universe, gravitation, relativity, physical science, science and religion, as well as science and the unseen world.
