A poem by Rashid.
the man I walk with
hoards old worries
dusty out of date despair
jealousy guilt loneliness
any vintage misery will do
poor sod
at midnight when the hubbub
of the day is done
or when some daily lull occurs
the scaly monsters of his childhood
anguish fear desire and loathing
jump him
help me he dumbly pleads
think well of me give praise
oh no I say
this secret zoo is your creation
look closely at these monsters
they’re fake
not monsters merely habits of the mind
imaginary friends
look look see them as they are
and they disintegrate look
this sudden bloom of silence
infinite space
infinite love
