Veteran Actress Meenakshi Seshadri Opens Up About Her Fun Rapport with Vinod Khanna on Film Sets – india.com – August 13, 2024
Veteran Bollywood actors Meenakshi Seshadri and Vinod Khanna shared a strong on-screen chemistry that was also evident in their off-screen camaraderie. Recently, Meenakshi reminisced about the special bond she shared with Vinod Khanna and how her father often joined them on set. During lunch breaks, the trio would sit together, exchanging light-hearted jokes. “Vinod Khanna and I had a great connection. My dad loved visiting the sets whenever I was filming with him. During lunchtime, we used to trade dirty jokes,” Meenakshi shared in an interview with Lehren Retro. The duo starred together in several films, including Satyamev Jayate (1987), Jurm (1990), Police (1990), Mujrim (1990), Kshatriya (1993), and Humshakal (1992). Reflecting on her experience working with Vinod, the 60-year-old actress added, “Vinod Khanna was a relaxed and easy-going person. He was at the peak of his career and would often visit the (Osho) ashram before returning to shoot.”
Vinod Khanna became a disciple of Osho in the early 1970s, leaving his family—his wife and two sons, Akshaye and Rahul—to move to Oregon.
Meenakshi, known for her iconic performance in Damini, also spoke about her memorable song “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” from Jurm, which she performed with Vinod. “It was a timeless hit!” she remarked.
In a previous interview with Filmfare, Meenakshi clarified that while she and Vinod were not “great friends,” they shared a special rapport. She said, “I’m not claiming that Vinodji was a close friend, but he was a gracious and inclusive person. On a lighter note, Vinodji brought out a different side of me and my family. My dad loved attending my shoots when I was filming with Vinodji. The three of us would share mischievous jokes, and others would wonder what we were laughing about. I had a playful relationship with my father, where we shared jokes and played word games. With Vinodji, it was an extension of that. I wasn’t comfortable showing this side of my personality to anyone else.”
Vinod Khanna, who made his Bollywood debut with the 1968 film Mann Ka Meet, passed away on April 27, 2017, after battling with cancer.
