Osho Meditation Camp in Damoh

The three-day Osho Meditation Camp was unforgettable in many ways. Although the information had gone out relatively late, still 150 people attended, some travelling from distant places.

It was organised by Swami Chandu and Swami Hari Aashish, and the facilitator was Ma Arti Rajdan. I had heard that she was one of the main fighters against Osho International Meditation Resort, Pune, but during the Camp she never said a single word on the topic. She was actually rather loving and respectful towards me, who is a known admirer of the Resort.

I was invited to just be present as a senior and close associate of Osho. However, during the three days of the camp I too spoke several times. Sometimes people wanted to hear my stories with Osho, and sometimes I replied to questions they had.

The lodging and boarding was in a large prestigious hotel. It was been excellent.

Every night, after the evening Satsang and dinner, there was a cultural programme.

Kathak dancer Dr Manisha Mishra, supported on tabla by her 14-year-old son, was mesmerizing. Suitable words of praise for her and her son fail me. Then we enjoyed the Ghazal singers Shri Nitin Agrawal and his brother Shri Pradeep Agrawal. They also fascinated me, as they did the entire audience. Manish Shukla, another master singer, was enthusiastically received, as well as the flautist Swami Tapan of Jabalpur. I had tears in my eyes… My thanks to him, too.

On 15th September, the Cultural Minister, Shri Dharmendra Singh, and Jayant Malaiya, the ex-Finance Minister of M.P., as well as MLA Uma Devi visited the Camp from 19:00 till 22.30. They enjoyed the kathak dance and the ghazals. Shri Dharmendra Singh, the Cultural Minister, when requested to say a few words, expressed his love for Osho and how present Osho was in his daily life. At the gathering he recited a few quotes by Osho and said that he reads Osho’s books mostly while travelling by train.

17 people, including the Ghazal singer Shri Nitin Agrawal and the renowned Dr Rakesh Rai, took sannyas. Each one received a beautiful picture of our Master as a memento.

I shall never forget this Camp. It did not feel like a gathering of lots of people; it was more like a tranquil pool of love. Swami Mahendra deserves special mention for the great help he had given me at every stage.

When the camp was over, on the morning of 17th September, I was shown their beautifully-built Osho Meditation Centre where about 30 sannyasins live. It’s a beautiful place, surrounded by greenery.

I feel extremely glad to have attended this Osho Meditation Camp in Damoh.
