Omkar from Germany left on 10th May 2011
Light as a Feather
Omkar left his body yesterday, on 10th May 2011 at home in St.Georgen-Peterzell, Germany, shortly before 5 pm. He had been afflicted with cancer for a year; his beloved Radha nursed him around the clock for months and was with him during the last hours. Also his daugher Kunji who lives in Holland visited him often and was able to say goodbye.
Omkar lived for many years in Berlin where he was the chief medical doctor in a clinic for the last ten years. Only last year he finished his examination as a specialist for psychosomatics. He lived in Pune 1 and 2 and in the Berlin Doerfchen commune where he loved his work, cooking for the commune. Punito said, “One of his deep passions was singing bajans and mantra songs, while playing guitar and the Indian harmonium. He died very peacefully and in a good spirit, light like a feather…”
This Friday there will be a ceremony in his village with family, friends and colleagues from around the area, whilst on Thurday, 9th of June (1pm) there will be a celebration and burial of the ashes at the Friedenauer Friedhof in Berlin (Westkorso / Stubenrauchstrasse) where Anidana will give an address about his life. It was Omkar’s wish to be brought back to his home town Berlin.

Sneha who ran the Doerfchen commune for years said, “I remember him as a silent and humorous man – I always appreciated him very much during the Berlin days. It touched me in my heart that he was finished with the life in this body at such an early age.”
