Pieter from the Netherlands left his body on 6th May 2012.
From Baul we hear that Pieter left his body just before sunrise on the day of the Buddha Full Moon, the full moon in May when Buddha was born, became enlightened and left his body. “We will never know how he managed this, but we certainly know that his path was well-lit!”
His body was brought to the Amsterdam burning ghats by boat, on the very boat he had just bought. While in hospital he had planned a boat-trip to Paris and explained to everybody in detail the route: it was very complicated, through all the canals and rivers. When he heard that the cancer had spread from the brain to the lungs he accepted the situation in a matter-of fact way and said: “If it is like this… OK… then it is so!”
Never a complaint was heard from his mouth, but he would have loved to go back to his big house-boat which was located just outside Amsterdam in the middle of nature. During his illness he was taken care by those living with him on the boat. He had welcomed many sannyasins to live there, some of whom stayed for longer or shorter periods. The boat was famous for the yearly birthday-party which was always a huge gathering of friends.
“Piet had a big heart where many people had their place. He loved good company which he also found in Pune, but particularly in the Jabalpur commune. He loved India. Although his English was limited, he managed to connect and have conversations with everybody around him. He will be missed by all his friends, but I think mostly by Pathika,” writes Baul.
