Two slideshows of Shivananda’s paintings around ‘favourite quotes’.
“If you send me your favorite quote, I will then integrate it into a painting. Let’s see how many quotes I will be getting.” This is what I posted in Facebook some time ago because I love to incorporate words in my paintings.
Even as a small child I would cut out text from magazines and glue them on photos. I then gave the finished pages to my mother and ask her to make a book out of them. She sewed them together on the sewing machine and I was so happy about my collection of these books.
The fascination of combining text and pictures I could explore further when I did a 4-year training as typesetter. Soon I changed my profession to become a graphic designer, but by now I had (and still have) all the possibilities to play with pictures and text.
Back to my Facebook post. So far I have received more than 120 quotes. I was overwhelmed by the response. I started to paint and write a few quotes and was carried away by the creativity wave. My house turned into a creative chaos where I would wake up in the middle of the night and paint, choosing quotes, enjoying so much to integrate them into a painting.
The wave is still rolling and the surfing is exquisite. Together with the quote-wave there are waves of gratitude and joy for this wonderful life.
The paintings shown are mostly between A4 and A5 in size. Anybody can send a quote as part of the play directly to Shivananda at firstname.lastname@example.org
Shivananda was born in Switzerland. He worked as a trained typesetter and graphic designer, silkscreen printer, bookbinder and photographer. Twenty years ago he fully engaged himself as a painter, working in Brazil and Switzerland. Music, another expression of his creativity, has been his companion for all his life.
