Establish the awareness that “no thought is mine” inside your intelligence. Spread out all your thoughts and see that they have all come from somewhere. Just like the birds descend on the trees in the evening to roost, thoughts also come in the same way to the mind to roost. You are just like a guesthouse were people come and go.
I remember a story that took place at a small inn…
People were arriving at the inn to stay the night. Another group of people, who had finished their work, were leaving. A mystic was sitting outside the inn and laughing. A man who had just arrived asked the mystic, “Why are you laughing?”
He replied, “Looking at this inn reminds me of my mind; that is why I am laughing.”
In the same way, thoughts come and go. The mind is only an inn, and no thought belongs to it. The mind is only an inn where thoughts come and go.
