Visvanath is hard of hearing.
One day he decides that he needs to buy a hearing aid, but feels unwilling to spend too much money.
He enters a small stall on a side street in Paharganj and eyes the shopkeeper.
Pointing at some hearing aids behind the counter, he asks, “How much do they cost?”
“That depends,” says Manjur, the shopkeeper. “They run from 200 to 2,000 Rupees.”
“Let’s see the one for 200 Rupees,” asks Vishvanath.
Manjur puts the device around Vishvanath’s neck instructing, “You just stick this button in your ear and run this little string down to your pocket.”
“And how does it work?” Vishvanath inquires.
“For only 200 Rupees it doesn’t work,” Manjur replies. “But when people see it on you, they’ll talk louder!”
