Nishkam

Journeys

(22 March 1938 – 27 January 2024)

Swami Deva Nishkam left his body in January this year. It was a long, slow journey over several years of letting go and saying good-bye, as his dementia progressed. It was a blessing for him to finally be able to go peacefully.

According to his wishes, there was no special ceremony. I just let his ashes disperse in a small river nearby, along with some of his favorite little flowers and his old, small Nepalese bamboo flute to accompany him, so that he can play on it in his new playground!

Fare thee well, dear soul!

Satyo

Nishkam was trained as a dentist and was well-loved by the sannyasins in the Zurich Centre. He also spent a few years working in Rajneeshpuram.

More Tributes

I met Nishkam on the Ranch, when he was a bus driver and much fun to joke with as a fellow Swiss.

We reconnected in Tuscany, where Satyo and Nishkam bought a beautiful “Podere”, a farm house, renovated it and were fabulous hosts. We met always, when we were in Tuscany for a training and later, when we had a house close by.

I remember Nishkam as a generous, warm, fun human being, who more than once lit up an evening of sitting together and sharing life stories.

After they went back to Switzerland we lost touch for a bit. So today’s messages hit my heart with the loss of another dear friend.

Much love and strength to Satyo.

Nishkam, I’ll always remember you as a beautiful man with a big heart and a wit.

In an emergency session in Zurich your calm dental skills took my fear away. Forever grateful.

To new music in the beyond on your bamboo flute 🙏🏼 Farewell, dear Soul.
