Often, I don’t have a concrete idea of what I want to paint. That’s why I sometimes sit for days in front of a blank canvas in my studio, waiting for something to appear that will give me a starting point. I have a large table, numerous acrylic paints, and rolls of crepe paper in different colors. All around me lie various bits of old packaging and other scraps, ready to be used. I have no idea what will happen next – until suddenly an impulse comes, and the first bit of acrylic paint or a piece of paper appears on the canvas. Each following step is an adventure because I have no idea which direction it will take. In this sense, painting – if I may call it that – is a great adventure, because it’s always exciting to see what wants to emerge.

Despite my visual impairment and lack of formal training in drawing, I have found a way to create art through experimentation, which brings me great joy. Sometimes I want to create something but can’t realize it because I lack the technical know-how. Yet in the end, I always manage to achieve a result that exceeds my expectations in a positive way. For me, it’s a wonderful feeling to see that, despite my physical limitations, I can still create something beautiful.

What’s most important to me is that, through creating, I repeatedly step into the unknown – I never know where it will lead, and I allow myself to be surprised by the process and the final result. Despite my impairments and limited motor skills, I can be creative, make something beautiful, and say with delight, “Wow, it worked!”
