Delta Lotus

Poetry

A poem by Michael Graber

lotus

Those sensitive boys could not reach
the remote corners of your heart.
Now, I ravish every fiber, down to
where your roots marry the riverbed.

Embrace this darkness, my darling —
your wildness may save you. Let
love puncture the petty virtues
of the dammed world. Closed bud,

reborn whole, forget compromise.
Cut off my head if I ever offer
you less than the entire present.
Would you flower any other way?
