Christmas Blessings

Letters / Opinions

A letter from Dhyan Avesh.

Beloveds,

I was born in the early morning of Christmas day 1941 in Shanghai, China, in a hospital in the Swiss Sector. All around us, in the city and throughout China, the state-initiated / sponsored mass murder, known as war, was going on. The Japanese had been murdering people in China for years and two weeks earlier they had attacked Pearl Harbour and declared mass murder on the ‘allies’. Shortly thereafter they put me and my mother, my father and grandmother, and my older brother in a concentration camp.

If you watch Steven Spielberg’s movie ‘Empire of the Sun’ you will see what happened to us. It is a beautiful story about the innocence of a young boy in the face of adult horror, by the way. Swami Alok was also in Shanghai at the same time, and way back in early Poona 2 we watched the movie together – holding onto each other and crying our hearts out.

We all choose our entrance into this world and that was quite a choice to make. What it has done is give me a deep love for the possibility of compassion and human dignity in the face of extreme circumstances and a steely resolve to stand up to, and expose, hypocrisy wherever I find it – myself first. You can see why Osho became my instant love. Although it was the admonition to LIVE, LOVE and LAUGH that lit my fire most immediately.

I tuned into this website this morning and suddenly had the huge desire to share this with you.

Here are a few messages I posted on my Facebook page recently:

We, who lived in concentration camps,
can remember the men who walked
through the huts of others,
giving away their last piece of bread.

They may have been few in number,
but they offer sufficient proof that everything
can be taken away from a man but one thing:
the last of the human freedoms –
to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances,
to choose one’s own way.

The story of Jesus is such a poignant message to humanity of our freedom to choose a personal path – beyond the seeming ‘power’ of external circumstances. That outer ‘power’ is a lie / maya / projection. Love is the all-encompassing nature of human reality / consciousness and its source lies within each divine human presence. Look to the children for its pure example – no past no future – simply an innocent openness to each and every moment. Bless the child within and all is well with us in this wondrous life.

I wish you a joyous Christmas celebration – we are all one family when we make that choice. I pray we choose compassionately and wisely.

God, I love the Christmas Spirit – being human is so mega magical. And these Christ / Buddha characters pop up once in a blue moon to remind us without any armies or control structures to enforce their the truth upon us.

And – after thousands of trips around the sun we remember. If you are feeling despair at the ominous-looking situation on this wonderful earth – just remember what they show us – love is the truth – those who try to oppress us are our brothers and sisters who can’t remember – bless them so they can find their way home to their heart / soul. Let them be and listen to the music of love inside – Wanna Dance? Jai Osho – Jesus – happy birthday brothers – we remember.

I would like to leave you with the lyrics to a song of mine that I will be recording in the not too distant future – and by the by – any musicians out there, if the spirit moves you, please contact me – I am very open to collaboration of the heart.

Love lights up each day
shining clearly through the open hearts of our children – who show us the way
They’re so happy just to be here with us – tugging our hands to say “come play with me”
Skipping through the puddles on a rainy day – so here-right-now, so innocent, so free

Nothing more to take, and nothing to pay
They show us how we used to be
They show us now, if we would only see
Life’s always free – for those who give it away
And float on love’s breeze.

Now there’s nothing left to say
Life was gifted us so easily.
And somehow I know
If you look deep in your heart
You’ll find a child waits for you
To never mind

So my dear friends and lovers, I wish you all a magical Christmas time, and joy and fulfilment in the coming trip around the sun. Blessings to you and your loved ones,

AveshAvesh
