Shanti Burgess

Journeys

…left her body on 31st January 2016

Ma Shanti (Burgess) was born in Australia in 1947. She followed her calling and moved to South Africa where her first daughter was born. Later she settled in England where she made her home in East London. She was introduced to Osho when visiting the Medina Commune in spring 1984 and several weeks after that she travelled, together with Pyasa, to Rajneeshpuram where she then took sannyas in August. Shanti had been in a long-term relationship with Pagalo who died in 2008.

She recently completed an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches at Bangor University, Wales. This was indicative of Shanti’s lifelong enquiry into Personal Development.

My loving thoughts towards Shanti’s family at this time. Shanti’s love came through whilst teaching. And I am honoured to have been her student. She leaves a lasting legacy. Love and Peace,
Angela

Shanti went out with all the peace she was named for. I will miss her deeply and my family are full of grief at her passing; she was an extraordinary person.

Shanti, you have been one of the most influential people in my life. I have been fortunate to have been your student and to have felt the warmth and love of a truly evolved human being. Thank you for sharing. X

Oh, beloved Shanti. Everyone who knew you will miss your loving presence, including me. I will always remember you and Pagalo jumping up and down on my bed in Poona. And the time between flights when the two of you picked me up and showed me around London. Fly high, dear, dear one,
Roshani
