A while ago I was on the phone with my sister in Germany when she was not feeling well. It was German weather: gray, cold and stormy — and she had had a bad day. She told me that she felt like a mole, so I had the idea to paint a book for her to lighten up her idea of how it is to be a mole. I wanted to cheer her up.

I looked online to see photos of how a mole looks like and started to paint; then this little guy took hold of me and, meanwhile, I’ve been burning my rice, lacking sleep and missing appointments due to obsession. I’m now done with this project, 45 pictures later…

SamhittaSamhitta grew up in Germany and studied cooking and hand weaving. She took sannyas in 1980 in Pune and, back in Germany, she lived and worked in the Cologne Commune till 1986. During her 8-year stay in India, she mainly worked in the kitchen, group department and restaurant. In 1994 she moved to the US and three years later opened a well-loved walk-in acupuncture clinic at the Plaza of the Pune Resort. She now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she works in her Community Acupuncture Clinic. boulderacupuncture.co
