Lyrics

Celebrating You
All the times of being alone
Always searching on my own
Looking here and looking there
Never knowing who to find

Beloved, beloved one
You’re the answer to it all
Beloved, beloved one
You’re the star upon the stars
Shining on

Osho, I see your face, I hear your voice and then
In every little thing, celebrating you

Gratitude

by Raji

This song perfectly expresses what led me to my beloved Master – and my gratitude for this whole miracle of existence that he is showing me again and again.

The longing finds a home

by Gopal

I first heard this song when I was visiting the Uta Institute where I was participating in a three-year healing training. So I was there twice a year for about ten days each visit. That’s when I met Parijat and other band members.

I was so happy to see that live music meditation events were happening there. I went to all of the ones I could, and even played in some. I loved being in that space of silence and celebration and being with so many friends.

During one morning meditation event, a satsang, I heard Raji sing an Osho song that I had never heard before. The words of the song seemed to express the experience of a seeker, looking for a direction; more meaning in life. The search leads to Osho and the seeker finds inner celebration. Having found a direction, the longing had found a home.

I felt it to be a very personal song of the seeker being supported by life to find a path, and to keep moving on, under a guiding star. I can understand when Parijat said to me the words of the song “just happened”, because I feel the words convey his own experience, flowing out into song.

The lyrics just happened…

by Parijat

I wrote this song not long after Osho had left his body, in 1991. We played it just once in Buddha Hall, with Narayani and Prasad (Harry Manx). I played a lot with him at Riverside [the ‘musician’s house’ overlooking the Mulla Mutha River], where I used to live on my yearly 6-month stay in Pune.

It all started with a chord progression we liked and which was asking to become a song (I play music continually – and something new happens each time). The lyrics then just happened. They just came to me. It’s actually a rare thing, because I am not a singer.

The Uta Band

by Parijat

Gopal asked Parijat, the original coordinator and a man “very good at creating an atmosphere of harmony and togetherness” to write a few words about the band.

The Uta Band was never a band as such. The members changed constantly. Whenever someone asked who was playing tonight, we would just say: The Uta Band. On that ‘tonight’ it could have been Premendra, Ishu, Parijat, and Bhola, and on another night a totally different line-up.

In Pune Two times, Uta would show Osho’s discourse the following night and there were plenty of musicians who enjoyed paying for White Robe. We had live music every night!

Musicians came, stayed for a while, then left again, travelling into the world and maybe settling down somewhere. I remember these coming through: Milarepa, Ravi, Narayani, Prasad, Deuter, Gopal, Karunesh, Bharti, Maneesh, Nirgrantha, Meera, Rupesh… I am sure I’ve missed out at least a third of the many names.

In short, in its heyday, the Uta Band was a flow of musicians, always changing.

Nowadays the Uta Band plays at least twice a month for satsang mornings [which are also broadcast live via Facebook]. In the meantime Tanmayo and I have retreated to our little cottage in the countryside where I continue to create music, the latest album being, Simplicity of Heart.
