Mood of the Month

But here, as always,
things turn out differently than you think.”

– Wilhelm Busch

Straight to the point: The Full Moon at the very beginning of the month highlights a powerful arc of suspense. Opposite the Moon in Leo are the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Aquarius. Leo is one who loves drama, authority and self-expression. And Aquarius strives for freedom, equality and change to the status quo for the benefit of all. What do I want, what do others want? What does the individual need – and what is supportive of a good coexistence?

One thing is clear: social change can only be sustainable if the basic needs of everyone are taken into account – not just the profit interests of those in power.

After five months of being retrograde, Uranus is moving direct again. It casts the spotlight on the changes and impulses for progress of these recent months. It remains to be seen whether they have a lasting impact – or whether they amount to much ado about nothing.

Mercury moves into Pisces and roams the infinite realms of imagination, dreams and deep feelings. In Pisces, Mercury faces the challenge of putting subtle and multi-layered perceptions into clear language. With so much emotional space and sensory input, it’s easy for confusion to arise – both in one’s own thinking and while communicating with others. This is especially true as Mercury turns retrograde towards the end of the month.

Venus also moves into Pisces. Receptivity to love and all things artistic increases, as does the longing for a spiritual home. Venus in Pisces refines and idealises feelings of love, strengthening the hope for redemption and unconditional love. A good time for meditation and sensitive interaction.

Around mid-month, Saturn moves into Aries for the next two years and two months. Here, it curbs the impulsive behaviour of Aries. It calls for self-discipline and advises that new projects be initiated in a planned and well-thought-out manner.

The New Moon in Aquarius signals the starting point for social shifts. Together with the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune, Uranus accelerates the transition into a new era. Old structures dissolve while new standards, guidelines and laws begin to take shape. The movement is forward-looking and vision-driven. The aim: to create resilient and sustainable frameworks – both in society and in one’s personal life.

As the Sun moves into Pisces, it softens rash scenarios and rebellious unrest. In chaotic times, its advice is to look inwards, to focus on what is essential and to come to terms with oneself.

Saturn meets Neptune. Illusions dissolve, the truth wants to come to light and urges for clarity. False promises, hidden agendas and self-deceptions become obvious. It is time to face reality as it is – while still keeping an eye on what is life-affirming, meaningful and worth living for. What can raise my consciousness? Osho’s ‘Life, Love and Laughter’ is a good guide in this regard.

Towards the end of the month (26 February), Mercury turns retrograde. A retrograde Mercury does not always respond appropriately to present circumstances and may refer to past experiences rather than to what is happening right now. It is wise to postpone important decisions and commitments, especially those involving long-term agreements or contracts, until Mercury moves direct again after 21 March.

And let’s not forget: in February we celebrate Carnival – the so-called fifth season. A perfect opportunity to take a closer look at who we really are and which mask we want to wear as we dance on the stage of life. Have fun!

It is because of this kind of worrying and planning for the future that a certain proverb exists in all the languages of the world: Man goes on desiring, planning, worrying about the future – and God goes on disappointing him.

There is no God to disappoint you. In your very planning, you are sowing the seeds of disappointment. In your very worrying about the future, you are wasting the present; and slowly, slowly it becomes your second nature to worry about the future. So when the future comes, it will come as the present; and because of your habit of worrying about the future, you will waste that moment also in worrying.

Aries (21 March – 19 April)

Mars brings movement into your relationships and calls into question all agreements and contracts that benefit only one party. The focus is now on the joint ventures that are driven by a higher goal and the realisation that we are all in the same boat. Neptune dissolves selfish individual endeavours and Saturn curbs combativeness and the urge of conquest. Look at the bigger picture, connect with friends and like-minded people, and get involved in community projects. Your needs and heart’s desires can be fulfilled more easily when you feel at home in your community. Everything is simply more fun then.

Taurus (20 April – 20 May)

This month, much can be resolved through inner clarity and insight. You draw on the wisdom of recent months and now you know where progress is possible. In the first half of the month, Uranus sends a wave of aha-moments and calls for radical separation from the old. Yet it soon becomes clear: external separation is no solution as long as the heart longs for harmony and connection. Venus shows the way to inner calmness and supports anything that helps us reach inner peace and harmony. A wonderful time for a silent retreat, self-inquiry or a wellness break. Withdraw more often and use this time to come to terms with yourself. The answer lies within you.

Gemini (21 May – 21 June)

In the first week of February, the calls for change are loud and clear. New plans emerge that could radically reshape – or at least reorganise – your everyday life and work. Wait and be patient. The time is not yet ripe. Slow and careful action is far more effective right now and leads to more sustainable changes, than a rushed, all-or-nothing approach. If situations are truly stuck, express your point of view firmly, but remain open to other perspectives. A fruitful exchange can untangle complicated situations and suddenly open up a willingness among all involved to take a completely new look at things.

Cancer (22 June – 22 July)

The Full Moon sends impulses for a more creative use of the abundant energy that might otherwise spill into emotional turmoil and chaos. Jupiter advises focusing on the beautiful things in everyday life and relationships, instead of looking at the shortcomings. Its influence strengthens inner awareness and emotional perception, making it easier to recognise what might calm and soothe charged situations. Much depends on your willingness to accept that the situation may in fact be quite different from how you perceive it. The New Moon helps you realise that tolerance leads to independence.

Leo (23 July – 22 August)

You are in your power – especially when it comes to standing your ground in front of others. Still, there is no need to flex your muscles. Mars strengthens your willingness to negotiate and supports your fair engagement while confronting opposing positions: win-win for both sides – “live and let live”. In the first half of the month, Venus also promotes kindness and courtesy in your interactions, advocating equality, tolerance and mutual respect. You will fare better by presenting your views objectively and offering creative ideas with respect, rather than pushing them through by force. Play by the rules!

Virgo (23 August – 22 September)

In the first week, Uranus puts you on edge, which may stir some restlessness in your daily routine and your interactions. But then things will settle. Mercury draws you out of work mode and opens your mind to spiritual themes. Take time to rest body and mind, surround yourself with people who nourish you and truly listen to you. Relaxed, trusting exchanges with friends and loved ones are among February’s greatest gifts. Only contact those you want to and let go of those who want to leave. Towards the end of the month, your focus turns inwards – you are well prepared for it.

Libra (23 September – 23 October)

A month for small steps, even if you feel restless at times – especially at the beginning of the month. Don’t jump into action when requests and deadlines pile up. Put your own well-being first, then only support others. From the second half of the month onwards, you will feel more open to love, art and spirituality. The longing for freedom from worldly concerns, worries and fears will get stronger. Enjoy taking things slowly and create space for meditation, self-reflection and rest. An ideal time for a short seaside break or a silent retreat. In relaxation, many things will fall into place all by themselves.

Scorpio (24 October – 21 November)

Pluto and Lilith illuminate hidden desires and taboos that are ready to be dealt with honesty and be liberated. The first step: admit that they are there. February is an ideal month to gently free whatever lies dark, rigid and immovably buried in your unconscious. All the judgemental beliefs and negative self-images that subtly control your everyday life can now be resolved and transformed through friendly appreciation and acceptance. Some unresolved and painful situations may arise. Stay on the ball and use all the quiet and peaceful moments to come to terms with yourself.

Sagittarius (22 November – 21 December)

The Full Moon provides inspiration for creative work and for a new level of togetherness. Lilith encourages you to be authentic and to express your point of view honestly – without regard for others’ expectations. If some matters prove to be too entangled, withdraw and give them the space to clear up on their own. At the same time, gather your strength and reflect on events that have happened in recent times. Which of your needs have you honoured and which have you neglected? What have you felt in your relationships, and what have you honestly revealed about yourself? And what have you hidden? Listen to your heart; it knows which decision is right. Everything that is essential will stay.

Capricorn (22 December – 19 January)

The month begins – with a standstill. Somehow, things are not going as they should, neither professionally nor privately. And no one knows why. Instead of becoming increasingly busy and desperately trying to get things back on track, withdraw, collect yourself and accept what is happening. This will make it easier to see what is upsetting the current balance and calm the general agitation. From the middle of the month, Saturn moves into Aries and clearly shows the areas where you need to put in more effort and act more responsibly. Take matters into your own hands and be open for change.

Aquarius (20 January – 18 February)

February starts with many projects that urge you to take action. Until the middle of the month, you are fully in your power and feel committed only to yourself – which is also reflected in your contact and exchange with others. You know your boundaries and know how to set them when you feel your freedom is being restricted. Self-determination, friendship and fairness are of paramount importance to you – you treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Uranus ensures that old habits and methods no longer work and encourages a fresher approach. A month for new goals and new vigour. It’s going to be exciting!

Pisces (19 February – 20 March)

A period of calm awaits you. Many things are now developing on their own and there are no further steps to be taken to initiate projects or tidy anything up. There is also no need to take on any new commitments. You realise that you have done enough and a certain heaviness is falling away. A new modus operandi is on the horizon: instead of actively approaching things and shaping them according to your ideas, you are now letting life take its course. Rest, remain receptive and let others do the work. Many things will fall into place by themselves and you will intuitively know when your input is needed again. Enjoy your newfound serenity and recharge your batteries!
