The Prick (a longish short story)

You can look up to it, like you do, and it will like it!

You can make yourself a bit smaller, insignificant and subservient, and that thing will feel itself bigger and important and macho.

“He’s here… I have to open the door… bye!” you said to me on the phone, and opened the door again to the Englishman from next door, with whom you chose to have a serious relationship.

And… he will feel it’s a very convenient arrangement, man and woman, like this. He enjoys feeling necessary for a woman who can’t cope without him…

That’s the idea anyway.

He comes in any time that’s convenient, which is always… because you can also even accept being his little whore wife… like WiFi, always connected and on. You never turn off, never shout, “Go away!!” Never fight him off…

That’s the traditional way of dealing with the prick. Centuries of husbands and wives have theatrically enacted that most noble and civilised way of being together…

The English way.

Another, less civilised, more common way of dealing with the prick… is to fight with him!

That’s what you’re always doing with me.

The idea is that there’s equality; when both fight nobody is on top or underneath the other…

There’s no superior or inferior.

She treats him with contempt, like you do… and he has to defend himself!

Coming together never happens of course, but she can laugh… laughing Laura… and continue fighting with him till the end of time! Like you did last night… and, poor me, slept only 3 hours…

And made me drive 🚗 into a lamp-post in exasperation…

The Italian way.

There’s another way of dealing with the prick, Osho’s way. The way of goodness, of the heart, of coming together as equals and melting into one…

Maybe, it requires a little understanding of the prick…

It’s not something to look up to! It’s quite helpless really…

No need to be afraid of it, my dear!
