A poem by Veetmoha (Tony Kendrew)

Some night
about this time of year
between the parking of the car
and the porch light
between putting out the bins
and the kitchen door
a dazzling silence
and we look up
and there you are again
Cygnus and Aquila
Andromeda Pegasus
singing the song
of where we came from.
We never learn
the summer song –
it starts too late
long after we’ve
carried the picnic things
back to the car
or put away
the garden tools –
perhaps a few snatches
slip in around
the bedroom curtains.
This is the turning in
after the days of sunburn
and sand between the toes
to the wondering
to the light in the window
to the things not asked
of seagulls
and butterflies
in the certainty of June
to the inner space
from which arises
every song that was ever sung
long before
Sirius and Vega
Capella and Algol
Deneb Aldebaran.
