He left his body on 10th August 2012.
Via Chetna we hear from Farid’s sister Diane that he died Friday, 10th August, in Laos. Farid spent many months on the Ranch and later at the Osho Meditation Resort in Pune. “I was very close to him. We were raised like twins and I will miss him dearly,” she adds.
For many of us Farid was very present in our lives through his frequent posts in Facebook. The last one he put up – on 6th August – was this quote by Osho:
Just the very idea – as if it is the last moment – will transform you. Then there is no need to be jealous, no need to be angry. In the last moment of life, who wants to be angry and jealous, sad and miserable? In the last moment of life, naturally all grudges and all complaints of life disappear. If each moment is taken as the last – as it should be taken because the next is uncertain – you are changing yourself, and your change is going to be infectious. It may change the whole world, but you had never intended it to. That is my way of changing the world without being aggressive.
From Diane we also hear that Farid was in Vang Vieng, Laos, staying at a guesthouse. He had a heart attack which probably occured at about 7:30pm – and he died from it. The US consulate called Diane and told her the bad news. His body was brought back to Vientiane, Laos, where it was cremated on Friday 17th. The ceremony was done by a funeral pyre and, the following day, his ashes were scattered in the Mekong River by Buddhist monks. “He was supposed to return to the US in September… In his will he left his email accounts with passwords and asked to send everyone a message. We will always remember him in our hearts.”
