A poem by Madhuri.
When people walk
through Hebden Bridge
they stop
and pet each other’s cats.
These cats are unwinding devices
for all that ails you
– rolling unpredictably
with an admixture of expressions
on paw, brow, ear –
Then, when people
walk away
the well-fed clouds look warmer
and in each person’s back
a catch has been released,
so that whatever has rushed
out of it
leaves behind a much softer
kind of sky.
