Swami Chaitanya Keerti writes about a Celebrative Walk organised by the Ask Bhagwan Team in Australia.
In the 70’s, over 50 years ago, we sannyasins in India did Kirtan in the streets of various cities. We did it because television was under the control of the Indian Government and Osho’s message at the time could not be expressed through Government channels. Kirtan in the streets was the best option available to spread the joyous message, singing, and dancing. It worked – and worked wonders!
Recently, something similar happened: the Osho Kirtan Group did a Nagar Kirtan in the Sydney Darling Harbour. Sadhak, of the Ask Bhagwan app team, and several sannyasins did it – for the joy of it. Kirtan is an outpouring of blissful expression of the feeling of gratitude towards the Divine.
Sadhak says, “Our Ask Bhagwan team also organised a four-day Book Exhibition at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney, and on the last day of the Exhibition, on Sunday, it was decided to conduct a Nagar Kirtan. At short notice, around 40 people supported us and committed to joining us. This time would have been the best time because even the Sydney Vivid Light Festival was on with thousands of people around all the time.
“Two days prior to the event, on Friday, unfortunately the Sydney Darling Harbour Space Management Authority rejected our application for our Kirtan. But we still decided to go ahead without permission. So we restricted our number to 20. We did not use Punjabi drums and big speakers and so completed the Nagar with handheld instruments and displayed big photos, and also conducted an outdoor meditation and dance.”
Sadhak informs me also that they have the idea of arranging the next Nagar Kirtan at the Sydney Opera House Campus and conduct outdoor meditations on world-famous spots where tourists from all over the world visit every day. And not only that, they want to show Sydney locals that Osho Meditations and retreats are happening in their area.
“There are many old sannyasins and Osho lovers around Sydney but we can’t reach them, so we have decided to conduct the group meditations on tourist spots, displaying Osho’s large size photos,” concludes Sadhak.
