Adventurous and curious
by Parampara
Swami Bodhi Varin, born in Norway in 1939, left his body on Friday, 13th August 2023. After years of deteriorating health, it must have been a relief for him. I heard he was relaxed and peaceful when he left. (He had told me that he was ready to go.) When he took his last breath he was surrounded by his family.
Varin was an adventurous man, travelling frequently, always curious to see new places and meet new people. His dream was to help create and live in a better world. He did a lot for it; working in development aid in Africa, sponsoring a school in Ladakh…
Osho’s vision of the new man corresponded exactly to his dreams and he threw himself wholeheartedly into sannyas.
He lightened up in any sannyas community and was often surrounded by many people (mostly women) who loved his gentleness, his big heart and his laughter. He participated and helped in many of Meera’s painting groups, in Poona as well as at Osho Risk in Denmark. He loved her work and also her craziness that inspired him.
So many fond memories come up while I write this; of his big, loving bear hugs, his humour, his honesty…
He had had a lot of grief and pain in his life and I am happy (at least I try to be) that he can now fly high.
P.S. he did not like to have his photo taken as you can see from some of the photos…
