Before I became a therapist and writer, I studied Art at Uni, majoring in Sculpture. Some years later, I studied Chinese calligraphy with master Qiu Xiang Zhaoqing.

When I visit the Osho Meditation Resort in Pune, I usually paint as part of my meditation. I have done so for the last 20 years.

My paintings are mainly inspired by nature and the spontaneous gestures that come out of deconstructing traditional Chinese ideograms. It took me years to learn how to let go of meaning and to just keep the gesture made by the brush. Sometimes there are elements from other sources which leak into these paintings, such as the decorative designs of Art Nouveau, or the intricate carvings that I saw while visiting Iran.

I am not trying to express anything – neither an emotion nor a thought. I have no idea what will come out once I start. I simply allow my hand to move with spontaneity until I feel I have to stop. In that moment, I see the painting for the first time and wonder from where it came.

The materials used are: ink and watercolors, on rice paper or Indian handmade paper.
