“My Love to Saroj”

Remembering Here&Now

Ageh Bharti remembers the (long) story behind this photo…

Osho photo for Saroj

Before meeting Osho, on 10th February 1967, I used to write poems, articles, as well as stories. However, chiefly I was a poet. I was getting published in more than a dozen magazines, in different cities and districts.

After meeting Osho, I started writing down his talks. The talks which – transcribed – came to 15-18 pages, I then turned into one or one and a half page articles, taking out his most important points and putting them in proper sequence. These then started to get published as well.

Osho loved my write-ups so much that he said that, in case someone asked his views on a certain topic on which he had not spoken yet, I could write an article and have it published in his name, instead of waiting for him to speak about that subject.

It then really happened once when a Mr Roshan Utpal asked for an article on Communal Riots for his monthly Indore magazine ‘Aarti’.

I wrote in the name of Osho giving it the title of ‘Fire of Communal Riots’. Below I wrote: by Acharya Shree Rajneesh (presented by Shiv).

It was printed and people from Indore got attracted to Osho through reading the article. One of them was Dinesh Shahi. He wrote a letter to Osho. Then another letter came. I wrote to him that Osho was on tour and that he could reply only when he was back from his travels. The man wrote to me saying that if he did not get a reply soon he was likely to go mad.

When Osho was back, he saw the magazine and the letters. I told Osho that this Dinesh Shahi seemed to be an excessively emotional man and I asked him to please write a few lines to him.

Osho said that yes he would reply to him and that he was very much pleased to see the article I had written in his name.

The next day, when I went to see him again, before leaving he gave me a few letters to post, including a letter to Dinesh.

Then, when Osho moved to Bombay to live and started giving sannyas, Dinesh Shahi travelled to Bombay, took sannyas and became Swami Dinesh Bharti.

Afterwards, Dinesh wrote a letter to Osho saying that also his sister Saroj wanted to take sannyas. Osho then sent this portrait photo to Saroj, signing it with: “To Saroj with Love”.

This photo shows us how loving and caring Osho is – and how everything hangs together…
