Third poem from S D Anugyan’s poetry book, Here Are The Empire Builders!
The Victim has become the Seeker. They have dared to leave all that was safe. It is like they can hear a song no one else can. They have lost a protective layer, and their sensitivity is almost too much. They get into therapy, but it doesn’t quite work:
The train seems forever late
Or you forever late for the train.
Whichever frustrates.
Finally, something bursts free, in dance, in song, in celebration:
It is time to live in the open wind
Their rebellion has become loud!
Earthless
It’s time to leave,
Disconnect.
Don’t come near,
Platform cold, wet, alive
With fear
Hysterical laughter:
Poised and correct.
I love you.
Rain is much less cruel than thought,
Wind than human eyes.
Energy impatient – to do
You go, glide to the bookstall wise
Mountains, dreams, games fought.
Juice choose.
Neutral do.
Even a sentence chimes
Penetrates
Wakens another layer of you.
Therapy circuit crimes,
The train seems forever late
Or you forever late for the train.
Whichever frustrates.
It’s time to live in the open wind
White petal-hands
Charming, flowering, fluttering
Electric guitars,
Time to live on the open sea
Moonwise, strange, observant.
Alone storm-electricity.
Till you know who you are.
