A blue supergiant star in Orion constellation ‘named’ after Osho

As a gesture of gratitude towards our Master, a group of sannyasins in Australia has ‘registered’ a star in Osho’s name with the International Star Registry (ISR) Australia. The name sounds impressively official – complete with certificate and star chart – and could almost pass for something issued by a serious astronomical authority.
In reality, however, the company is a commercial enterprise that offers symbolic star naming, mainly intended as a novelty gift – rather like dedicating a park bench, only further away. No scientific body is involved, and the name will not appear in any astronomical catalogue. It is, quite simply, a poetic gesture.
Below you will find the astronomical data marking the star’s position (note the registration date).
Naturally, we might have preferred a certificate from the International Astronomical Union (IAU) – the internationally recognized authority responsible for naming celestial objects. But until that day arrives, we can enjoy the playful thought that somewhere within the easily recognizable constellation of Orion – between Orion’s Belt and Sirius, the brightest star in our night sky – a blue giant is twinkling in our direction.
Our thanks to friends at Osho Australia Meditation Retreat (facebook.com) and the Ask Bhagwan App (askbhagwan.com), and to Swami Prem Sadhak for sharing the news.
