Review

Okay, how to write a review?

I have no idea; I am a poet. I will give it a try though, because I love this book.

This little fairytale has left something significant in me. It is a story that invites unexpected things.

I was quite taken by surprise, as I read the story, because I found tears flowing down my cheeks, I found myself smiling, I found myself being swept away on a not-so-little adventure.

Have you ever found yourself wondering how to talk with your children about the mystery of life? If so, your wish is probably to support the natural curiosity of the child, without giving them a manual with all the answers. It’s then the child’s trust that enables them to stay open and explore for themselves.

These are the main themes that emerge as we follow a heroine who never departs from her truth.

And as the story touches deeper questions, it dances with those questions in such a way that the discussion remains grounded and real, though without losing sight of the magic.

For example, there is a scene where it looks as if the Little Witch is going to be killed by a predatory cat, and, as she’s lost her wand, cannot defend herself. Her demeanor in that moment doesn’t change from the calm acceptance with which she usually greets life. Shining through the action we also see a depth of gratitude for life in the face of death.

As the tale unfolds, something else, besides the witch and the growing trust of that family, is revealed indirectly: the story is about the innocence of a child who believes in a little witch, and we, as adults, are given the opportunity to rediscover and embrace that same innocence in us.
