(29 January 1942 – 12 October 2022)
Swami Anurag David (David Hey) grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and studied at the University of Michigan.
For several years, he was the leader of the Codependency groups at Osho Multiversity in Pune, India. He lead groups and seminars on Codependency, Meditation, Essence and the Enneagram and worked with Krishnananda in Codependency and couples work. David was also a teacher in the Essence work of the Diamond Logos. For many years he lived in Tuscany, Italy.
His personal search has led him to meet several spiritual masters, including Osho, Poonjaji, Ramesh Balsakar, Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa.
David Hey is the author of two books: The 9 Dimensions of the Soul: Essence and the Enneagram, his first book, exploring the personality types of the Enneagram through the different qualities of Essence. His most recent book is Travels in Consciousness. The book addresses our personal and collective need to achieve higher levels of consciousness, and how that goal can be accomplished.
His wife, Barbara, writes: “David and I reconnected in 2015. We pledged to live in the moment, realizing that we could not predict how much time we would have together. We had a lot of fun until Multi-System Atrophy and Lewy Body beset him. The last few years have been rough with the diseases on board, necessitating David’s living in a series of care centers. Fortunately, the most recent place was an excellent fit for his needs. Though he was declining rapidly, he received abundant tender care and seemed finally to accept the illnesses.
“As we all know, illness affects more than the person with the diagnosis. As David’s wife, I too suffered some consequences of his poor health. Fortunately, I had a lot of support, personal stamina, and true love for the man. I have no regrets for making the plunge into our shared life. I believe we both learned evermore about Love.”
“David died on Wednesday afternoon. He appeared peaceful and was clearly ready to move into the big Mystery of life after death.
“David’s brother, John, and I have met with Bradshaw Funeral Home. We honored David’s wish to be cremated. He will be buried at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis in a small, private family gathering in the weeks ahead. Next summer we hope to gather family and friends for a storytelling event remembering David.”
Abhiyana comments, “His last years were difficult on his body, but talking to him over the phone this year, he never lost his sense of humor.”

More Tributes

David came to Pune in 1987 and immediately integrated into the commune, especially into the Center for Transformation (CFT), the therapy department, where he became one of the therapists.
We met at the medical centre where he had come with a small physical problem – it was like meeting a brother… And from then on we never separated.
After Osho left the body he came to live with me in Italy and for about ten years we shared our lives in a large farmhouse in Tuscany together with other sannyasins. We were living in a sort of small commune…
David was a very reserved man, with a strong sense of detachment, a ‘gentleman’, present in every situation with calmness and humour.
We got along well as good Aquarian brothers and spent a lot of time together. During a sailing trip I introduced him to Pia, who then soon became his wife. After a few years, the relationship with Pia ended and David was left with very little money and nowhere to live, so he decided to return to the US…
He contacted one of his brothers and went back to live in America where he met his high school sweetheart. They fell in love again and she became his second wife. It was Barbara who took care of him until his death from a disease of the nervous system that David developed in the last years of his life.
Gone is another gentle soul, a soul too sensitive for this violent and coarse society…
David, my brother, you are and will always remain in my heart…

Forever grateful to David Hey,
In the Poona 2 days I had a few sessions with him, a kind of hypnosis. This helped me getting over my addiction to smoking and supported me on the path towards finding what it (the addiction) really gave me, to find a gift hidden in the smoke ‘screen’ of my mind.
Wishing you a peaceful journey, David, and thank you for gifting me…
