Romancing the Stones: the Second Chakra

Healing & Meditation

Sohana’s second contribution about healing the chakras with gemstones

The Second Chakra is the one people have a keen interest in for many reasons; topping the list are sexual energy and relationships.  This doesn’t mean we are not interested in the other centers but if we want to enjoy our lives we should pay attention to see that this vibrant energy center is nourished and taken care of.  How do we do this?

Properties of the second chakra

The second chakra is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. It is the one that connects us to the inner source of inspiration, and enables us to experience the beauty around us. The pure knowledge given by this chakra is not mental, but it is a direct perception of reality. This is the center of pure, steady attention and power of concentration.

The role of color

As we know, our spirit and emotions have a powerful reaction to color.  A beautiful bright orange is the color of the 2nd, or Sacral Chakra.   Also called the Swadhisthan Chakra, it relates to our sexual organs, to joy and creativity.   It is located three fingers below the navel and is the site of our emotions.  How we connect with each other emotionally and sexually is dealt with here; this is the driver for our physical and emotional desires.  It is associated with the element of water.

Balance is vital

We live in a world of dichotomy: up-down, good-bad, heaven-hell, inner-outer.   If you are like me, you might tend to carry this dichotomy to thoughts about the chakras such as, “We’ve gone through these lower ones and now we are accessing the higher ones.”  Well, guess what?  We will never escape from our lower centers as they are part of the whole and it is vitally important to keep all our energy centers from Base to Crown healthy and in balance.  The radiance that we love to feel and be depends on this balance.  And later in life, hormonal balance is regulated by the 2nd Chakra and so plays a vital role for our entire life.

Gemstones for the second chakra

We can use the color of gemstones to support our needs, both spiritual and physical.  Some stones for the Second Chakra are Carnelian, Vanadenite, Orange-Pink Sapphire, Fire Opal, Orange Moonstone, Sunstone and Amber.  The Vanadenite crystal in the photo is a good example of appropriate stones for the Sacral Chakra.  It comes from Morocco and is on a necklace of Carnelian and Agat – all vibrating with the Sacral Chakra.

Vanadenite grounds us to the Earth and helps us accept being physical.  It opens our minds, emotions and body to positive support from the Earth.  The Carnelian in this necklace gives courage, sexual prowess and vitality.

Fire Opal brings in the fire of creative power.  It is a powerful protector and gives joy, harmony, emotional balance, love and hope to the wearer.

These qualities are also present in the Ethiopian Fire Opal necklace.  All three pieces were created to nourish and energize the Second Chakra.

Therapy

Therapy for the 2nd Chakra would consist of laying the gemstone of choice with an orange color on the Chakra for 5-25 minutes.  Imagine a bright orange vortex of energy spinning in the area between the naval and pubic bone;  at the same time, you can imagine feeling intimate with another, providing comfort and pleasure and receiving pleasure in return.  Consciously release all guilt relating to sex and know that sexual intimacy is a natural part of a healthy lifestyle.  You can also just be open to the creativity of the universe as you tune in to this center.   You can place a single gemstone on this center or an entire necklace.  Wearing any of the appropriate stones as a necklace, ring or bracelet is also helpful.

“The second body, as I said, is the emotional or the etheric body. The second body is connected to the second chakra – the swadhishthan chakra. This too has two possibilities. Basically, its natural potential is fear, hate, anger, and violence. All these are conditions obtained from the natural potential of the swadhishthan chakra. If a person stagnates at the second body, then the directly opposite conditions of transformation – love, compassion, fearlessness, friendliness – do not take place. The obstacle on the meditator’s path in the second chakra is hate, anger and violence, and the question is of their transformation.

“Here too the same mistake is made. One person can give vent to his anger; another can suppress his anger. One can just be fearful; another can suppress his fear and make a show of courage. But neither of these will lead to transformation. When there is fear it has to be accepted; there is no use hiding or suppressing it. If there is violence within there is no use in covering it with the mantle of nonviolence. Shouting slogans of nonviolence will bring no change in the state of violence within. It remains violence. It is a condition given to us by nature in the second body. It has its uses just as there is meaning to sex. Through sex alone other physical bodies can be given birth. Before one physical body falls, nature has made provisions for the birth of another.”
