Only when we are witness to our base energy, is it possible to raise it through the chakras to reach cosmic super consciousness, writes Osho’s niece Pratiksha Apurv. Speaking Tree, India, October 21, 2016
Among the seven chakras that represents seven bodies, muladhara is the basic and first chakra that provides a platform for a seeker to dive deep into the ocean of ultimate bliss. The muladhara or root chakra — energy centre — represents the physical needs and most importantly ‘sex’ which till recently was considered a taboo by some as far as spiritual growth is concerned. This is the most misunderstood and neglected aspect, despite the fact that it is deeply rooted in meditation and is a source of abundant energy.
If a seeker dives into this ocean with complete awareness, transforming the sexual needs rather than suppressing them, he will have a glimpse of ‘Super Consciousness’. The sexual energy will melt into the divine like a river dissolves itself into the sea. The seeker is given an opportunity by the existence to realise that sex is energy; it is a means for transformation.
But, if the seeker stops to fulfil the sex drive in the beginning, this beautiful possibility for higher transformation is lost. One has to treat this as a foundation, a platform to jump into the higher life energy, otherwise, the foundation will be destroyed.
However, at the same time suppression of sexual urge and sexual energy too will end in destruction. It is like existence knocked at your door but you refused to open it, because of fear and conditioning. The whole life will then turn into conflict, and you will be fighting your own energy centre every living moment.
Just accept sex as a natural phenomenon of the body. Think of it is as natural as eyes and hands in your body. The person or a seeker will have to be awake, completely aware and accepting of his sexual desire to transform it into divine energy. Sex is a deep act and if you’re witnessing it, if you’re conscious and awake that you are not just a body, your journey to the inner depths will start. You will be able to transcend it and feel transformed.
Osho says,“The moment you participate in it consciously, you become a witness to it. And once you can become a witness in the sex act, you will transcend sex, because in witnessing you become free.” The master very delicately tells the seekers that the more you go into meditation through sex, the less effect sex will have. He says meditation will grow from it, and out of the growing meditation a new door will open and sex will wither away.
Do not suppress it and do not stop at it. Feel the beauty of the muladhara chakra which is pregnant with huge potential for spiritual growth. This energy centre is ready to shower you with ultimate bliss. Go deeper into it and there comes a moment when you will see the flowering of meditation. Muladhara or sex energy centre is an opportunity for this flowering, for the transformation of the very basic energy to the highest peak.
In the Bhagwad Gita, Chapter 13, Krishna says: Upadrastanumanta cha Bharta Bhokta Mahesvarah, Paramatmeti capy Ukto Dehe ‘smin Purusah Parah. Krishna is talking about existence of Para or transcendental in every human being. He is already there as supreme divine in an ordinary living being. He is watching the body enjoying the material energy and eagerly waiting for you to transcendent that energy to super consciousness.
Of the seven chakras mentioned in the Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad, the first three chakras — the root, sacral, and the solar plexus — are connected to body-level experiences, such as sex, money and ego. The fourth is the heart chakra, which is linked to things like jealousy and love. The fifth is the throat chakra. Known as vishuddhi, it is located at the root of the neck and defines oratory skills. The sixth chakra, also known as the third eye or ajna chakra, defines awareness and witnessing. The seventh is the crown chakra, which helps one go beyond the state of witnessing, into a state of cosmic super consciousness or the state of enlightenment.
But, one has to understand that sex is the lowest and the most basic form of energy. To transcend it, to reach the peak of ultimate bliss, one has to make it a means to reach the ultimate destination.
The Ultimate Consciousness by Pratiksha Apurv, Acryl and Oil on Canvas, 60′, 2012
Since all seven chakras can be depicted through their respective colours, I have depicted them in my painting, ‘The Ultimate Consciousness’. The first, root chakra is red; the second, sacral chakra — for emotions — is orange; third, solar plexus chakra is depicted by yellow colour; fourth, the heart chakra is green; fifth, the throat chakra is blue; sixth, the third eye chakra is indigo and finally, the seventh, crown chakra — for cosmic super consciousness — is violet. Through my painting, I want to show that only when we can witness our base energy, is it possible to take it to cosmic super consciousness.
