Subhan writes, “It is very helpful to remember that whatever perspective we have about the world, it is only a piece of a bigger picture, which includes other perspectives that may appear to contradict ours.”
Everything we perceive is filtered through the ideas, ideals, beliefs and judgments that we have stored in our brain in the “folders” I call cumulatively, the mind. So there can be as many perspectives as there are minds! That doesn’t mean that there aren’t agreements among many minds about some exterior reality. Many minds are programmed to be similar to many others. And they are constantly reinforced in our media and in the communities we associate with. It does mean however, that there are thousands and thousands of variations about what is experienced by each one of them!
So it is very helpful to remember that whatever perspective we have about the world, it is only a piece of a bigger picture, which includes other perspectives that may appear to contradict ours. If this “bigger picture” is seen as one which contains complementary views – rather than being contradictory – it is much easier to recognize that everything in this bigger view has an appropriate place in the universe! Then, there is no need to feud with other views. Rather, we can recognize that it would be more helpful to find perspectives that encompass more of us, rather than those that divide us.
And once we discover these larger areas of experiential agreement, we might even recognize that dropping the mind and its ideas, beliefs, etc., can bring us even closer to so many more people! This doesn’t mean that our understandings are discarded. It means that those understandings are not used to separate ourselves from others, but to understand one another.
Imagine what our world would be like if that were the case!
Each of us can take small steps in that direction by understanding that ALL views are limited; and that we live in a limitless universe!
Love…
