Opportunities for awareness

It’s wonderful to recognize the opportunities that existence gives us every day to be more present and to learn from each moment – whether we are doing something big or small. It’s also significant to observe how many of these moments are not used consciously; but instead, we spend much of our time in unconscious thoughts and distractions.

That seems to be our plight!

But wait! That can also be our challenge – and an adventure…

So, how to experience more awareness and presence in whatever we are doing?

Right now… Stop! Close your eyes. Experience how your body is breathing. Are you breathing from your upper chest? Or from your belly? Are you getting enough oxygen, or just getting by? If needed, take a deeper breath – fill up the lungs – and then slowly let the out-breath happen. Repeat that.

You see, this is one of those opportunities to be more present! Use this simple moment to be here! No need to try this in more complicated moments, where it is often so difficult to be present. Stay with the easy ones.

Watch and experience how you wash your hands; or eat your food; or even put on your shoes. Make these moments simple and meditative. And, before you know it, you’ll find the knack of slowing things down, and being more present, more in this one of many moments given to you.

And then, you’ll begin to experience how wonderful it is to be more here, right now! You can do this!
