Lyrics
You are my love, you are my life
You are the stillness of my heart
You are my day, you are my night
You’re everything that feels alright
You are the mountain and the rolling sea
You are the wind that whispers free
You are the moonlight and the morning sun
You are the most beloved one
Recording Narayani singing
by Gopal
I remember so well when we were in the studio for Bindu’s Stillness of My Heart. As we recorded Narayani’s vocals first (Anandgyan’s were recorded later) it was just the three of us; Narayani, Chinmaya Dunster (recording), and myself. The studio was in a very peaceful location, just outside Pune. The setting was perfect: it was in a larger compound of a training school for priests. It had a countryside atmosphere and was all very shanti, shanti peaceful. We all very much enjoyed being there. And the food they offered was very good!
I would like to share a touching moment that happened during the recording. I had asked Narayani if she would slow the tempo a little, slower than how I had heard her sing the song in Buddha Hall. I loved the song and her clear voice, and in Buddha Hall the tempo was good for that setting.
She agreed to a slower tempo for the recording, and all went very smoothly. I felt she was totally in the moment, singing from her heart, her gaze right in front of her. When she reached the end, she took some moments for herself… and then said that she had felt very vulnerable singing the song at that slow pace, and had felt she was singing right in front of Osho. After a few moments’ pause I replied, “That was so good, we felt that intimacy… and it will be felt by the listeners, too.”
I feel so grateful that our project team could make this recording happen. Bindu’s beautiful song expressed through Narayani’s and Anandgyan’s vocals. Narayani opens the song alone and then there is a buildup with this wonderful combination of harmonies of a male and a female voice. When the song comes to an end, their melody lines and harmonies come together for a very rich sound.
Bindu’s songs have a special place in my heart
by Narayani
Bindu… It’s a long time since we first met. I don’t remember exactly when I started noticing him, when we connected and when we started playing together. What I do remember is hanging out together, laughing, having a coffee and making music. I do remember his beautiful music. I first heard his instrumental CDs, so soothing, so calming… But then I met the composer; he was feisty, had a lot of humour. He was a genuine unique character and a great musician. He looked like an Inuit, but said he was 100% Danish. (I always had my doubts about that. As a half-Caribbean I have an eye for that!)
We then properly met in Pune Two when I joined the Music Department and I was introduced to his songs. Bindu and I played together for Music Groups, Evening Meetings and Sannyas Celebrations. It was in the Sannyas Celebrations where I really started to fall in love with his songs.
First because of his sannyas ballad that says, ‘I didn’t know what love was like until I met you, Osho.’ It was the first song of his that really touched me and that I loved to sing. And then there were When You Go with the Flow, and The Stillness of My Heart. And so many more beautiful gems.
He was so full of love for the Master, and his love for nature… such gentle melodies, telling a story of love. His songs seem to have a knack of going into a jazzy version, which we did often. Just like the man himself, from poetic ballad, to jazzy spunky rhythm.
As rebellious and feisty as he was socially, so gentle, loving and sweet were his songs and his voice. Not to mention his mastery of the guitar… Bindu could pack a punch when he was playing, and could also touch the heartstrings, with his voice, his melodies and his guitar. A ‘Bindu song’ touched people and many a new sannyasin in those days received their mala listening to these gorgeous words: ‘I didn’t know what love was like until I met you, Osho…’ or to the song, Stillness of My Heart.

Bindu was very generous with his music; he allowed me to record The Stillness of My Heart for one of my CDs. This song resonated with me strongly – it suited my voice and it suited my heart. After many years we met again in Corfu and we got the chance to sing it together a few times when he joined me in a concert.
In later years things became more difficult for him. I noticed it especially the last time we played together in Corfu, when his vision had started going. This did not affect his guitar playing nor his singing, but it did affect his mood. He could explode during rehearsals – about nothing – and it affected me a lot. Playing together became a serious affair. He always felt bad after he exploded. It was easy to forgive him, though.
Bindu and his love songs have a very special place in my heart.
Remembering Bindu say: “It just comes through me.”
by Gopal

Bindu is the writer of many Osho songs and was a friend of mine. He recorded beautiful instrumental music too. I once asked him, “How do you play so clean and flowing like that, especially in a recording session?” He laughed and said, “I don’t know myself, it just comes through me.”
The last time I met Bindu was in Goa, India, many years ago. Chinmaya and I were working on the song project, mixing the songs. Bindu was pleased we were recording his songs and had a listen to some we were working on. I will always remember his dry sense of humor, honest spontaneous expression and the love expressed through his music. Stillness of My Heart clearly reflects that love. We included in this album a second song of Bindu’s called, I Didn’t Know. For me that song also expresses love and gratefulness.
As far as I know these two songs were never recorded for world-wide listening. This was a motivating reason for me to coordinate the recording of them and of several of his other songs that were not previously published. We made two versions of I Didn’t Know, one at a slower tempo.
