Vibusha shows her recent watercolours in a group exhibition in Conches near Geneva, Switzerland, 2-17 November 2024 (with a preview for Osho News readers)
‘The Cosmic Egg’ is the name I have given to this series of watercolours, where the colours play in superposition and dilution, thanks to the beauty of happy accidents.
I choose the theme of the egg as it symbolizes a renewal of my creativity. My inspiration came from a book called Tantra Song by Franck Andre James. It’s collection of Tantric paintings from Rajasthan, which were traditionally used as a support for meditation. The shape of the egg symbolizing the Universe in its Unity.
My intention with these paintings is to give the viewer a sense of calm, a sense of simplicity, a flow and easiness in this world of complexities in which we live. I thought they would be suitable to be hung on a wall in a precious place in anyone’s home.
This, my very first exhibition, is being shown in Geneva where my spiritual quest started. I could say that now “La boucle est bouclée” (we have come full circle). Let me tell you my story: It was in Geneva, in 1974, that I did my first Dynamic Meditation, at the Osho Center which was there at the time. I had just turned 16.
Then, instead of studying for my Baccalaureate in Paris, as I had planned, I travelled overland to India. I felt pulled to go there after discovering Osho’s meditation. I arrived at the Pune ashram, where I took sannyas in 1976. That was ‘the University of Life’ for me. I became part of the community, working in Vrindavan kitchen for five years. It was my way of learning about surrender and awareness. The most beautiful years of my life were the years I spent in the presence of Osho.
Back in Paris in 1981, I opened a meditation center together with my partner Suvir. There I also cooked, until we later opened our own restaurant in the 4th Arrondissement, the most central part of the city, also called ‘the spiritual heart of Paris’.
While working as a vegetarian chef – for 50 years – I developed a deep passion for spices; their colours have always inspired me. One day, after my father had passed away, I felt like experimenting with painting, using colours the same way I use spices while cooking – tasting the different sensations, exploring new food for my soul. The main emphasis for me though is that painting should remain a form of meditation.
I am so excited about the exhibition, especially because it’s my first! It has been a long and beautiful process.
