Yes, you read correctly, Govt. Osho Degree College. The old name of the college where Osho had taught for nine years has been replaced by ‘Osho’, as reported by Osho News last May.
The event, titled Osho’s Birthday Celebration and Ex-Students’ Meet, welcomed attendees from the 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990 batches, totalling approximately 250 participants.
Already during the morning various floral tributes had been placed on Osho’s Chair, which is located in the library where he used to read.
During the evening event, from 7 to 10 pm, I witnessed that the auditorium was packed with the joyous faces of past students reuniting after decades. Many, who are now holding esteemed positions, expressed their gratitude for having studied in a college where Osho had walked. The atmosphere was filled with an overwhelming sense of joy, truly embodying the spirit of a reunion.
The stage featured over a dozen dignitaries, including Mr. Alok Mishra, Deputy Chairman of the M.P. Congress Committee; Mr. S. S. Gupta, IPS, DIG Police (Retd.); Mr. A. C. Tiwari, the College Principal and Chairman of the occasion; Mr. Jagat Bahadur Singh Annu, the Mayor of the city; and several others including myself. Most of them were former students of the college.
Mr. Alok Mishra’s insightful lecture showcased his extensive knowledge of Osho, even recalling the date and year of Osho’s enlightenment.
Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh Annu pledged to organize world-level programs.
And notably, Mr. Param Shivam from Kashmir delivered an emotionally-charged talk, expressing his deep admiration for Osho and his teachings. Osho, deemed the herald of humanity’s future and the greatest rebellious sage on the planet, had faced opposition from politicians world-wide, but his teachings remain vital for humanity’s survival.
The event concluded with the honorees receiving gifts, including a beautiful Osho memento, a shawl, and a coconut.
I found myself overwhelmed and in tears, re-confirming that Osho is not dead. I shared a personal experience of receiving various gifts from Osho and emphasised the profound love he instilled.
To conclude, Chairman Dr. A. C. Tiwari expressed his gratitude to all ex-students for their participation, and to Dr. Prashant Mishra, the convener, who, along with Mr. Nitin Jain and a dedicated team of friends, had with hard work orchestrated the festival.
The event received extensive coverage in local newspapers and TV channels the following day.
