Three-day meditation camp for Buddha Purnima in Sagar, MP, facilitated by Swami Shailendra Saraswati and Ma Amrit Priya
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, starting from May 23rd, Swami Shailendra Saraswati and Ma Amrit Priya conducted a three-day meditation camp in Sagar (MP), India, a town where Osho completed his post-graduate studies and first experienced the separation of his soul from the physical body. The camp was organized by Swami Anand, Swami Santosh, Swami Rishi, and friends. It was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister Mr. Govind Singh Rajput, who also released a newly published book by Shailendra, Masti Bhari Zindagi (Life Full of Bliss), in the presence of an audience of 600 people. About 50 newspapers, television channels, and YouTube channels covered the story.
At the Heritage Hotel, 150 residential participants attended the camp, with about 30 local people joining during the day. Swami Arvind, Swami Anand, Swami Shailendra, and Ma Priya conducted various Osho meditation techniques and answered participants’ queries.
The event’s theme can be summarized as follows:
Why is the Mind Not Calm?
Several reasons can cause the mind to be restless:
- Constant worrying about potential problems that may never occur.
- Concerns about the future and possible negative outcomes, such as failing exams, losing jobs, or business losses.
- Negative self-perception and dissatisfaction with life.
- The stress of living in a competitive environment.
This continuous mental disturbance can lead to severe health issues, such as high or low blood pressure, headaches, heart disease, and depression. Osho gave a discourse in 1970 at Ahmedabad Medical College titled “Medicine and Meditation.” All participants attended the lecture and gained profound insights into the relationship between disease and health, emphasizing how these are affected by our level of awareness.
Measures for Peace of Mind
Depending on the cause of disturbance, different remedies may be required. Generally, the following 12 points are very useful:
- Deep Slow Breath Pranayama: Engage in deep breathing exercises whenever you feel restless. This helps concentrate the mind. Incorporate this into your daily routine. Tanden Prana Sadhana, taught by Lao Tse of China, is highly beneficial. Listen Osho’s Talk.
- Fill with Positivity and Meditate: Observe your thoughts from a distance, a practice known as the Watcher on the Hill. Engage in meditation in a quiet place, morning and evening. Learn Osho’s meditation methods.
- Engage in Favorite Creative Activities: Pursue hobbies to distract from disturbing thoughts. Engage in creative activities for at least an hour daily, such as listening to music, cooking, playing sports, painting, or learning music.
- Spend Time with Nature: Go for walks and enjoy the beauty of nature. Early morning interactions with nature can refresh you and motivate you for the day.
- Avoid Drugs: Refrain from using substances like cigarettes and alcohol to escape troubling thoughts. These only provide temporary relief. Anything which makes us less conscious should be avoided.
- Good Thoughts: Stay motivated by reading inspirational material. Focus on positivity and strive for a state of thoughtless meditation. Read Osho’s discourses.
- Right Food in quality and quantity: Consume nutritious food and avoid unhealthy, oily foods. Drink plenty of water, preferably warm, and make a habit of drinking water half an hour before and after meals.
- Get Enough Sleep: Ensure adequate sleep to keep the mind calm and energetic. Turn off electronic devices before sleeping to avoid disturbances.
- Engage in Physical Activity: Exercise, walk, do yoga, swim, or participate in other physical activities suited to your age and health.
- Cleanliness outside as well as inside: Daily bathing and wearing clean clothes attract positive energy. Keep your heart, mind, and body clean, by doing cathartic meditation methods and maintain a clean environment around.
- Avoid Negative People: Minimize contact with people who have negative thoughts. Just as we avoided germs during the pandemic, stay away from negative influences to prevent mental disturbance.
- Meditation is the Key to a Blissful Life: Let us grow in more awareness, more love, and more peace. The formula is simple: Know meditation, know life. No meditation, no life.
By following these guidelines, one can work towards achieving mental peace and stability, as envisioned by Osho. More than 100 Osho lovers gathered at Sagar Railway Station on 26th evening to give a heartfelt send-off to Swami Shailendra Saraswati and Ma Amrit Priya.
Starting on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, till conclusion on 26th May, news about Osho meditation classes has been widely covered in print media, social media, TV, and YouTube channels. Few of the links are given on facebook.com
