Disappearing is the path to Being

English translation of a letter by Osho to Mr Ashvani Kumar Saini, then a student at the Engineering College, Jabalpur

Osho replies here to a letter by Mr Ashvani Kumari Saini. He was one of the students of the Engineering College in Jabalpur who had visited Osho and was part of the photo session Ageh Bharti describes in his little story Child-like simplicity and, more recently, in Dancing at the hints: a photo album re-discovered. It’s the photo session where the students asked Osho to taken on various position, i.e. sleeping, gardening, teaching, etc.

Ashvani remembers that Osho had said to him, “You are Swami Yog Bharti.” He later got a job in the Indian Army and is now a retired Colonel, living about nine months in England with his two daughters. When he comes to India, he meets Ageh Bharti and together they drown deep into their memories with Osho.

My dear,
Love.

When a drop dissolves, it becomes the ocean.
When a seed dissolves, it becomes a tree.
When a man dissolves, he becomes God.

That’s why I wanted you to dissolve,
because dissolving is the path to Being.

Don’t save yourself, otherwise you will die.
I am shattering you so that you can be saved.
This is the eternal law of religion.
This is the eternal law of love too.

In reality, religion and love are two names for the same truth.
That’s why my love does the same, that only love can do.

The ocean is in front of us.
But due to fear, our eyes are closed.

The ocean is in front of us.
But due to fear, we are standing on the shore itself with feet rooted.

I have pushed you from the shore,
and I am thanking God to see you dissolving into the ocean.
Even by mistake, don’t come back, no matter what.

Listen to the call of the unknown and keep moving forward.
Just forget the known.

There is no greater ignorance than stopping and clinging to the known.
Surrender yourself into the hands of the unknown,
because there is no greater knowing than that.

If the ocean drowns, then drown.
As there is no way of knowing the ocean, except being one with it?

मेरे प्रिय,
प्रेम। बूंद मिटती है तो सागर होजाती है।
बीज मिटता है तो वृक्ष होजाता है।
मनुष्य मिटता है तो प्रभु होजाता है।
इसलिए ही चाहा कि तुम मिटो; क्योंकि मिटना ही होने (Being) का मार्ग है।
बचाना मत स्वयं को, अन्यथा मिटोगे।
मिटाता ताकि बच सको।
धर्म का यही सनातन नियम है।
और प्रेम का भी यही सनातन नियम है।
असल में धर्म और प्रेम एक ही सत्य के दो नाम हैं।
इसलिए, मेरा प्रेम भी वही करता है, जो कि प्रेम ही कर सकता है।
सागर सामने है।
लेकिन, भय के कारण हमारी आंखें बंद हैं।
सागर सामने है।
लेकिन, भय के कारण हम तट पर ही पैर गड़ाकर खड़े हो गये हैं।
मैंने तुम्हें तट से धक्का देदिया है।
और तुम्हें सागर में दूर खोता जाता देख प्रभु को धन्यवाद देरहा हूँ।
भूलकर भी लौट मत जाना।
अज्ञात की पुकार को जुनना और आगे और आगे बढ़ते जाना।
ज्ञात को भूल ही जाना।
उसे पकड़कर रुकजाने के अतिरिक्त और कोई अज्ञान नहीं है।
अज्ञात की बोहों में स्वयं को छोड़ देना, क्योंकि उसके अतिरिक्त और कोई ज्ञान नहीं है।
सागर डुबायेगा तो डूब जाना।
क्योंकि सागर से एक हुये बिना सागर को जाना भी कैसे जासकता है ?
